The 2011 Vuelta a Espana route was revealed today in Benidorm. Running from 20 August to 11 September, it covers 21 stages and 3300kms. Stages are mixed between 9 flat stages, 10 mountain stages (including 6 mountaintop finishes), 1 team time trial, and 1 individual time trial.
The 66th edition of La Vuelta will avoid the Catalunya region and the Pyrenees, but will visit the Basque country. And, it managed to find two new mountains to finish on, Estacion de Montaña Manzaneda (Stage 11) in Galicia and La Farrapona in the Asturias region (Stage 14). Angliru returns as the culmination of Stage 15. The first mountaintop finish is Sierra Nevada for Stage 4. Stage 9 sees a finish at the summit of Sierra de Bejar, La Covatilla. The sixth mountaintop finish will be Pena Cabarga, Stage 17.
