Food for thought

A while ago I threatened to do an analysis of U23 results and their predictive value.  Long story short...this isn't it.  However, in the process of starting said analysis, I took a look at what age the peleton at large reaches a stable level of performance.

How i did that, and what I found, on the flip...

Star-divide

What I did was take the top 500 riders in CQ from last year (I used CQ instead of VDS because I was planning on looking at the last 5 years of U23 results).  I then separated these riders by date of birth and calculated each years average rank.

In theory, each year of rider should be represented by both domestiques and superstars.  So, again in theory, the average rank for each year should be approximately 250.  If there are a disproportionate amount of worker types, then that number will be higher, more stars, lower.

Without further ado...

Rankbydob77-89_medium

and in table form:

Avgranktable-1_medium

And since it is VDS season, I'm not going to give away the conclusions that I have drawn from this data because I (of course) am using them to find next years secret breakout riders...

Gak so that is why i can't register my team and start hiring and firing.

I was hoping to have Contador fired 3-4 times already.

Do we signup again or should last year's login still work?

Mail me

(see mail on profile) with full rider name, 3-letter UCI team code and preferably but not necessarily the rider’s birthday. All add him for 1 point.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

That is certainly curious. It would be interesting to know how many riders fall into each age group. That might help explain the bumps in the curve.

But I did find a lot of bumpiness when I was looking at guys with star seasons (CQ scores of 1500 or more) and how likely they were to repeat. Perhaps there is a kind of cycle: Excel—Party—Excel—Party…

What else can I say? I'm really happy. --Vincenzo Nibali
