Who's going to work for who? Can 'I have cobbles for breakfast` celarra has very little support in th classic. Is this a sign that he's going to target the Tour? Sending the Shleck's there would be a chanceless thing to do. And is this teally the superteam it says it is? Or is that title for BMC?

No Popo...that's surprising.

Fair enough. After I posted, I realised I'd opened that door. Go your hardest, I'm not a fan of Popo anyway.
I was, and still am, surprised.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
That was it
Even if we haven’t seen the outcome yet, the raid and whatever came out of it obviously hangs like a massive poopbomb over Popo. If you need to cut your roster anyway he was the obvious candidate especially since he rides like a shadow of his medicated self these days.
I thought they would keep him for the same reason.
Keep your friends close and your massive poopbombs closer.
With the popo after Popo, no telling what he says when he goes canary.

As long as you leave Stamsnijder out of it
One of these days I tell ya… BAM!, he’s gonna score big.
"It's a lovely thing, feeling that momentum. If you're lucky, it's also about grace." Tim Winton
Don't think the team will increase its chances for winning the biggie, but
Classics situation looks better and they will be a bigger threat in one week races.
Rast and Hermanns will help with the Classics...who else? (Serious question with no snark.I'm just outing my ignorance.)

P-R team 2011:
1 CANCELLARA Fabian SUI
2 KLEMME Dominic GER
3 MORTENSEN Martin DEN
4 NIZZOLO Giacomo ITA
5 O’GRADY Stuart AUS
6 POSTHUMA Joost NED
7 STAMSNIJDER Tom NED
8 WEYLANDT Wouter
So really, the only really strong additions are Rast and Hermanns and they've lost O'Grady.
If I was Cancellara, I’d feel short-changed. He is, after all, their most successful rider.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
Hermans is not one for the cobbles, he's more Ardennes type
So they are definitely weakened, not strengthened. If he is aiming for the cobbles in the future and wants support he had better get away from this team in 2013.
I couldn't agree more. Geez, it's not good, although Rast was great in P-R this year.
Who do you think will now direct things on the road?

Ha!
JSallee and I had exactly this conversation yesterday.

And came to the same conclusion?
Could JSallee overcome his deep love for JB and look the truth in the eyes?
On closer inspection, Meersman is not a bad addition but it doesn’t change the overall picture. The Big Question though is whether Cancellara actually is continuing his cobble focus?
He yearns for a road Worlds
and I would have thought next year was ideal for him to ride off against Gilbert. I would think his program next year will be tailored for the Worlds road race and the Olympic Road race.
He might follow Gilbert next year and ride the Tour and the Vuelta, but I think Cance prefers not to ride the Vuelta.
I was told there'd be no math.
My thoughts as well with worlds
I think the parcours next year provides him an opportunity to lose weight and change what his focus is as a classics rider. The question I have is does he make the change before or after next fall? Does he have another go at RvV/P-R and the cobbles, because I don’t think he likes how he left it this year and I don’t think his team wants to sacrifice their cobbles team to have yet another Ardennes leader.
I don't think Cance or anyone on the team
is pondering whether or not he has another go at RvV/P-R next year. But yes, the where, when, and how to achieve the rainbow jersey is a major focus. Probably #1 on my wishlist as a fan is for Fabian to achieve this.

I looked truth deep in the eye
and I saw Rast holding a cobble over his head.
Life is full of opportunities to shut the fuck up.
If he is aiming for the Ardennes/Lombardia in the future and wants leadership
he better get away from this team in 2013
If he wants Tour glory (Frinking mentioned it) of some sort and wants support behind him he better…
I struggle to recall reading a situation where someone argued he should stay with LT/RNT. But I doubt they will argue for BMC these days.
I really think a Cancellara has more chance than a Schleck type.
But Bruyneel’s Tour Fixation will think different about this.
RVV and P-R both before the Giro.
Same riders started both races in 2011.
Early April team probably something like
Cancellara
Rast
Bennati (RVV only)
Wagner
Posthuma
Sergent
Oliveira
King?
Nizzolo?
Selig?
Irizar?
To apply lipstick to the pig…
Rast > O’Grady at this point. Bennati and Wagner were injured in April and would have helped a lot in the Ronde. Sergent and Oliveira have the size and talent for the cobbles; Sergent won 3 Days of West Flanders and Olveira was top-5. King, Sergent and Olveira all rode Roubaix; Oliveira looked good in the break before he crashed, only King finished. Selig is built for the courses and will probably get an opportunity. Nizzolo is maybe a bit skinny but kid has skills.
Basically, this could be a good support team by 2013 when Olvieira, Sergent and Selig mature but I don’t know if it can be in 2012.

The is good analysis...and without real support last year, he still podiumed...
…so, with some support (not even improved – just “some”) it stands to reason he could go better (although it’s no certainty). It was striking how far he was alone last year, so I’d like to see someone hang with him longer this year and at least fetch bottles or give him help chasing. We’ll see – BMC, QS, and others will be hot for a win so it will be fun regardless.

All that general classification talent, and I bet they still ignore the Giro.
Also, only one Discovery Channel rider left to go! The DNA lives on.
"Oh man, it’s going to take days to kill all these people!"
I wonder if Bruyneel will get them to be sensible and
have Frank ride 100% for Andy at the Tour and have Frank ride to win the Vuelta.
I was told there'd be no math.
of course he will
JB isn’t some pushover and there’s no way that he’ll let the Schlecks push him around. I’d bet that he gets what he wants. They’d be fools to think they know better than him when the Tour is on the line.
Focus on easy first. If that's all you get, that ain't half bad - Caballo Blanco
Forget that
give someone with fresh legs a shot at the Vuelta. They have more mountain domestiques who could be lesser GT/one week GC guys on this roster than they can possibly fit on their Tour team. I think if his 4th/5th in 2010 shows he could win or almost win a Vuelta if he targets it, but I doubt he’ll ever abandon Andy and the Tour. Frank would probably lose big time in the first time trial or crash and then decide to only use it as training for worlds anyway. Of course we don’t know the Vuelta route yet, but I don’t think it matters. I don’t want to see a whole team wasted protecting Frank Schleck riding on 75% form and 50% desire.
RaNT will probably ride Tour of California
Makes more sense to ride ToC than the Giro anyway, when you’re staking your team’s entire season on the TdF as Bruyneel always does.
MJB
They are still required to send a team to the Giro
and have numerous possible GT threats who aren’t American or well known enough to be ToC publicity attractions.
Fuglsang is supposed to be the GC rider there, no?
They might make adjustments though based on the course.
by Mr 60 Percent on Oct 17, 2011 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions
with the Giro start in Denmark, Fugsang is the default GC rider.
Final confirmation should come sometime after the TdF presentation.
We'll find out tomorrow
but the Schlecks will be moronic if not one at least goes to the Giro and instead goes to a ITT infested Tour as their only goal. It would probably help Andy if Frank would do the Giro, then there was no question Andy is leader in Tour and Frank to help. He should encourage his brother to race in May, but that would probably make him lonely.
(and I’m 100% sure neither are doing the Giro)
"Weltmeister!!" Zwei mal: 2010-2011...und weiter gehts
You're forgetting one thing
The huge weight training program will result in two super-domestiques for Cancellara…

Now I really need the fainting couch.
"How strange it was to see men doing something beautiful. Something pointless and elegant." Tim Winton, 'Breath'
I think its a fairly nice looking team
but it is not a ‘super’ team. The super teams next year are BMC and Sky in my opinion. Radioshack vII is more on a par with Liquigas – plenty of potential but a little difficulty with delivering. They will really need Canc to perform or they will be invisible until the TdF.
They really should target the Giro in 2012 and then take whatever comes at the Tour – but they won’t. They will just construct a better marketing story (spin and hype the Trek/ specialised challenge) and push on.
I was told there'd be no math.
dunno, it can't be all that bad with most of the ranking systems placing them in the top 3.
In fact, according to this site, RS v.2 is ranked first with the current known transfers going into 2012.
I just can't understand that when BMC
Has Gilbert, Evans, Hushovd and Van Avermaet, each with a strong group of support riders. Still, they do have potential so we will see. Now if they keep that group together and work hard, 2013 might be a completely different story.
I was told there'd be no math.
Over 3 GT's BMC looks pretty light and perhaps thats where the points
are going to be balanced out.
That's assuming RadioShack-Nissan sends good riders to all three races
"Oh man, it’s going to take days to kill all these people!"
They'll be all in for the Tour, that is a given
the other races won’t generate any interest for RS, so JB will not care.
Focus on easy first. If that's all you get, that ain't half bad - Caballo Blanco
I just read something saying Fuglsang hoped to be leader at the Giro
with Horner and Kloden in the team as well? I think he is dreaming.
I was told there'd be no math.
Yeah, if anything I could see them going for the Vuelta
at least Kloden, Horner probably would be best to emphasize the smaller stage races, not sure if both go to the Tour, maybe just one of the two.
They are combining the best riders of two World Tour teams
and all the points that come with having the opportunity to have twice the amount of leaders at every event. I think having all of those riders on one roster will result in less of a return next year.
I think the argument platypus is making (which I agree with) is they are less of a superteam than BMC and Sky because they only dominate in a few areas of the sport, like Liquigas they are a GT/stage race and Ardennes team (plus Cance).
Good to see Busche in there
One young, well 26 so not so much, but young to cycling, guy I hope keeps developing.
BMC still reigns as the "super" team
on paper, on the road, on the bus. in the hotel (calm down girls)…

I just looked at the transfer list
They have four Americans back to US teams. Inevitable I guess, but it does suck when the riders who climbed with the team through the ranks get the ax.
"Oh man, it’s going to take days to kill all these people!"
Three out and three in
Am I missing an American?

Will Clarke hasn't been signed with greenEdge as far as I can tell. Simon Clarke has.

Very strong team
It will be interesting to see how this team shakes out when it comes to leadership for certain races, and where emphases will be placed, but most of all I am looking forward to seeing if Bruyneel’s managerial influence can produce some greater results. Also glad to see that a majority of the riders left out were able to find new teams, i hope the rest of them figure something out as well.
