Some behind the scenes news

Walter Zini who has been team manager of Top Girls Fassa Bortolo for the last couple of years is leaving to start up a new team. He is said to be basing the team around Fabiana Luperini and Nicole Cooke (I wonder if whe knows this time). Top Girls themselves are continuing, basing their team fo next year around Elena Berlato, and have signed up Servetto as a new sponsor.

Don’t confuse Walter Zini with Walter Ricci Petitoni.

D'oh, I'm confusing myself even more

Zini and Ricci Petitoni were together at Selle Italia a couple of years back when they had a fall out mid-season. Ricci Petitoni is the one who was at MCipollini and is said to be looking to build a Luperini-Cooke team.

So the fact that Nicole is riding for the Rochelle Gilmore's Honda Dream Team in Australia

has nothing to do with her ride in Europe next year? I wondered whether anything might have developed from that but obviously not

by AdelaideFatboy on Nov 7, 2011 6:05 AM EST up reply actions

I remember all the stories around after the Skyter debacle about how Nicole had promised to stay etc.

and they all turned out to be complete rubbish, and how she said afterwards that it had hindered her chances in finding another team. There are so many of these “hoping to form a new team” rumours which never amount to anything that I never believe a thing for sure until I see the jersey.

Anglophones on the move

Belinda Goss and Emma Mackie to Abus, Shelley Olds to AA Drink.

by Monty. on Nov 6, 2011 5:25 AM EDT reply actions

People seem to think they're going to Greenedge

but Greenedge haven’t announced anything yet. It’s just that enough places have stories about Loes and Judith for me to believe that either they or someone close to them has told with a bit of a “sshh, don’t tell anyone yet”, whereas Gillow and Spratt are expected to, but no-one’s even got an off the record whisper. Unless I’ve missed a Rupert Guinness piece somewhere that has the full team line-up.

by Monty. on Nov 7, 2011 3:59 PM EST up reply actions

That's VERY interesting re Olds to AA

Is this because Kirsten Wild will be focussing on the track in the Olympics?

Good luck to Shelley, here’s to all the best success for her.

So who DON’T we know about from Diadora? Häusler and Abbott are the really big ones, no?

Aka Pigeons!

by Sarah Connolly on Nov 9, 2011 6:14 AM EST up reply actions

Or Kirsten needs a better leadout 'cos 2011 was a pretty poor season for her.

I’ve seen nothing about Mara (even her website has gone) or Claudia.

by Monty. on Nov 9, 2011 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

Wondering which teams will be wanting them at this stage

Garvélo seems to have only the budget for the bare minimum…. wondering if GreenEdge will be taking advantage of the late announcements etc to add some cut-price non-Aussies? And I think AA could do with Häusler. Wouldn’t be surprised if Abbott went back to 100% USA for her team, coming over for the odd race with the USA national team… except there’s no guarantee the USA could get a space in the Giro, given that even Team Aus couldn’t, this year.

(Can’t see Olds as lead-out, though)

Aka Pigeons!

by Sarah Connolly on Nov 9, 2011 5:05 PM EST up reply actions

The curse of the Giro winner, eh?

I’ve heard nothing of Mara since the Giro. There’s a message on the guestbook at Claudia’s webbie thanking her for her column in Procycling, the German edition I guess, but again zilch re a team for next year. Then again I’ve heard zilch about Tatiana Guderzo too. If that Zini team does come about …..

I’m not sure about Shelley as leadout either, but she’s not as good as an on form Kirsten Wild.

by Monty. on Nov 9, 2011 5:19 PM EST up reply actions

(Wondering how much of Wild's season was

a) influenced by the fact she’s in top track mode for the Olympics
b) affected by losing the exceptional lead-out that Cervélo gave her (esp Sarah Düster)
c) all about the Marianne Vos effect…)

Aka Pigeons!

by Sarah Connolly on Nov 9, 2011 5:06 PM EST up reply actions

Kirsten's still on track for that 5th place in the omnium, I guess

Sentiment apart, I don’t know why the Dutch didn’t ride for her rather than Vos in Denmark. Well sentiment and her crap 2011 season.

by Monty. on Nov 9, 2011 5:21 PM EST up reply actions

No! I think she can get a medal

but I should probably go & put my bet on Whitten for the win right now…

Aka Pigeons!

by Sarah Connolly on Nov 10, 2011 4:35 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks for the greenedge list.

I thought Judith would be riding for them but hadn’t seen anything about it. A few other good Aussies who I had hoped would be on that team are riding for other teams though. Going to be interesting to see who else they sign up.

I was told there'd be no math.

GreenEdge hasn't confirmed their

women’s roster as far as I know. But all three of these transfers have definitely been talked about as mostly done.

Just checked with the team. Obvy, we won’t be surprised by some of the roster when it is officially announced ;)

Some sponsor news

with Rabo taking over Marianne Vos’ team, they won’t be the name sponsor of Rabo Lady Force in 2012, but it looks like they are still providing some cash. The name sponsor will be a company called Nutswerk from Wemeldinge.

GSD Gestion have signed up Green Energy 4 Saisons who are apparently a long-time personal sponsor of Phil Gilbert.

by Monty. on Nov 7, 2011 4:15 PM EST reply actions

Nut = use. Nutswerk / nutsbedrijf = public utility. Wemeldinge is a town in Zeeland Province.

There's some team news

here. They’ve signed 12 riders, 10 are in the photo but I can only get 7 names from the story.

by Monty. on Nov 8, 2011 6:57 PM EST up reply actions

It looks like there's a new Dutch competition next year

the (and I had nothing to do with the name) Baby-Dump Kempenklassement, a series of six races with a year end prize pool of 1500 Euro to be shared among the top 15. Ok that’s not a massive amount, but nowadays it’s just great to see someone putting on some new races (‘cos I don’t recognise a single one here from this year)

· Omloop der Kempen
 · Tijdrit – GP Leende
 · Kermisronde van Luyksgestel
 · Kermisronde van Bergeijk
 · Mijl van Mares – Maarheeze
 · Van Gogh Ronde van Nuenen

by Monty. on Nov 7, 2011 5:15 PM EST reply actions

Omloop der Kempen and Mijl van Mares are both long-standing races

for male pro cyclists: OdK a UCI 1.2 race, MvM a post-Tour crit.

A few signings to Sengers

Anouk Rockx, Eline De Roover (a young rider who apparently found it hard to adapt at AA Drink) and Kimberly Buyl. They’ve posted a few photos from the first get together of their 2012 team on facebook (you don’t have to be signed up to see them), if anyone recognises any of the other faces.

by Monty. on Nov 7, 2011 5:46 PM EST reply actions

Not transfer news as such

but if you’ve got the physique of a (very tall) pro-cyclist, or just want an incentive to cut down on the doughnuts this winter, then Amber Pierce is selling off some old team kit on ebay

by Monty. on Nov 8, 2011 7:06 PM EST reply actions

If you're tracking next year's one-point bargains

Sengers have completed their line-up.

And not going to Rabobank after all is Marieke van Wanroij who has signed for AA Drink

Problems at Moving Ladies?

According to this discussion (I think) they have sold their clubhouse and may stop, but according to the team website they’ve just had a jolly nice day out in Maastricht where they made plans for 2012.

One for the fans of hotitude

and not transfer news at all. You want to meet a thunder-thighed French sprinter? First win lots of races. Will we get 200+ comments on whether he should have zipped up his jersey?

just 12 riders, and they say clearly that they see Shelley as being part of Kirsten Wild’s train.

One more team line-up

Top Girls have had a massive clearout, keeping just Elena Berlato Jennifer Fiori and Giulia Ronchi from 2011. Next year they are signing another group of young Italians, the best known of whom is promising sprinter Barbara Guarischi who gets a chance once more to ride for herself rather than leading out Giorgia.

Those new signings:

Irene Bitto
Francesca Cauz
Erica Cecchel
Viviana Gatto
Barbara Guarischi (Forno D’Asolo Colavita)
Sorayo Paladin
Doris Schweizer

GB Cycling may be losing Garmin-Cervelo

but they will have at least one UCI team with the news that Scottish cycling are working together with team Specialized – DPD Pakketservice (is this some cunning plot to make sure we always use the second sponsor’s name?) in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Rigamonti has a press release and list of names for Bizhub

the names are: Catherine Williamson (Gran Bretagna), Yolandi Du Toit (Sudafrica), Lilandi Swanepoel (Sudafrica), Candice Neethling (Sudafrica), Nicci Mari Grobler (Sudafrica), Monique Gerber (Sudafrica), Lindi Erasmus (Sudafrica), Ischen Stopforth (Sudafrica), Caitlin De Wet (Sudafrica), Liani Morkel (Sudafrica).

which is unlike any other list of names I’ve seen so far. He’s got a couple of quotes from Cath Williamson in there too, but GSD Gestion listed her on their 2012 team. I’m puzzled. It doesn’t help that GSD and Bizhub have a couple of the least helpful websites around.
