Thanks for the link--I was out of the country then and missed that report.
Awesome, broerie!

I've heard a rumour that next year

Bwahahahahahaha
Dear majope, for Christmas this year, I want an actual Cabin Boy Jens chapter, illustrated by Barbies. Now I have met Jens in real life, and have seen a photo of him on an actual boat, I feel that if I don’t hear more of his True Story, I may fall into a decline.
I have been a very good girl this year.
Lots of love

If you made Styby ride in front of me all the way round I'd go MUCH quicker.
I think this is an excellent plan.

Strava...? Mission accomplished.TOP 10..? I am not pushing it.. But....
Was looking at it....
got no idea of what the 4/10 1/10 or whatever those numbers are…!!!
Strava...? Mission accomplished.TOP 10..? I am not pushing it.. But....
I think 10/10 means maximum effort (like an all out sprint)
and 1/10 means riding really slowly (recovering)
Just asked Willj he posted one training session...
I believe you are right… But how do you measure? what is crazy for me might not be for you…
Strava...? Mission accomplished.TOP 10..? I am not pushing it.. But....
Yes, its perceived effort.
The videos "humorously give examples at the start and throughout.
The key is to change effort as these numbers change and make sure you are working hard at the higher numbers. After a couple times through it becomes easier to manage. I use cadence, gearing, heart rate and power as guidance – relative to each number.
So if the video says move from a 7 to and 8 maybe I shift up a gear and maintain the cadence. Or make my heart rate go up 5 beats. If a sprint, I usually get out of saddle, etc.
After a couple of times I think it gets easier to know exactly how hard you should be (trying) to work at each point.
====
I see 8 as very hard work but sustainable. Sweating buckets.
9 as sprinting.
10 full out – instant pain
7 Tempo
6 relaxed but still pedaling pretty fast
4 pedaling but relaxing
1 collapsed on floor
moo
Yes, this was confusing for me too, I think that they are meant to described perceived effort
I couldn’t find anything to really help me narrow down these numbers. I don’t use a power meter, just HR and perceived effort.
FWIW I use 8/10 as the effort I think I can hold for 6-8 minutes, just hovering slightly above AT/LT HR zone (175 BPM +/-). 7/10 is just underneath that and about what I could for longer periods, say a TT (170 BPM +/-)
9/10 is then “into the red” (up to 185 BPM) and at 10/10 I am looking at anything north of 185, but I usually only read those numbers after the ride, too busy hurting to read the screen :-)
4/10 is where I back off and expect to see something around 140 BPM.
The “fun” part of intervals is learning how hard you can push yourself. It helps that I used to use intervals a lot back when I was training for races, so I have a good sense for these things.
"Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill" - Fausto Coppi
always entertaining to see peoples heart rates
your rest at 140 is me getting close to red line. :)
I have a very slow pulse – high 30 resting. 152 max.
Maybe if I had more beats per minute I could go faster.
moo
Deceptive
My resting HR is in the mid 40’s (when I was younger and fitter it was in the low 30’s, for a period way back in ancient times it was a low as 28. I have a funny story where I was donating blood and freaked out the blood bank with my resting HR :-)
My max, as in highest recorded recently is 200-205 range. This has fallen a little as I got older, used to often register 210 – 215.
On paper I have a large range to play with :-)
140 is what I return to after an intense effort, and still spinning over a light gear at 14-15 mph. Most “easy rides” I sit at around 145-150.
I used to train with a guy who’s max was 150. He’d sneak a peak at my bike computer, see 145 and assume I was near to pegged. I’d sneak a peak at his, see 140 and think, my god this guy is barely putting in any effort!
Deceptive.
"Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill" - Fausto Coppi
indeed
Never used Heart Rate monitor until late 30s so not really sure what I was like as a kid. 28 is barely alive! :)
My wife has low blood pressure. Every now and then on a hospital TV show (like ER) they’ll yell blood pressure has dropped to (her level) — patient is crashing! :)

Thanks guys for all this info...
Looks like after a few times everyone gets use to it… and take it from there… I will try to combine… HR and cadence…. and play with the resistance of the trainer.

2ND session of sufferfest:
- Easier. took me less time to find a good pace….
-Easier and faster to set all the stuff….
-Computer behaved so no problems there.
- the not so good part?
-Ouch…!
-everything still wet in the living room.
-already don’t want to get up tomorrow.
Seriously is nice and is getting easier to follow, times on the trainer goes by faster.
Strava...? Mission accomplished.TOP 10..? I am not pushing it.. But....
+1
One tip for sufferfest is a good workout mat below the bike that absorbs sweat
this mat is excellent

I have a yoga matt...
and add the carpet under that…. I live in a third floor i bet my neighbor is not very happy with me on the trainer… The yoga matt help for the trainer not to slide all over… might add a towel to all this.

Shocking picture from Liquigas training camp.

If Ivan says lime green is the new blue
then I want a big lime green hat. Look at the picture—his whole stance is broadcasting “Blue—it’s so last year.”

Strava...? Mission accomplished.TOP 10..? I am not pushing it.. But....
Well, I did, but it's sort of complicated...
Whenever the first order happened a year or two ago, I ordered a PdC jersey for me. But it was too tight, so I sort of gave it to mr. majope. Then I lost weight, so I, er, borrowed it back when he was in England or Finland or somewhere, and wore it to the US national championships. Then Tom Zirbel signed the back of it, leading to a long debate over whether or not we could wash it now, and how, since mr. majope wasn’t wearing it when it got signed, it really needed to be mine officially again. You following? It was mine, then his, then mine again. So when the most recent order happened, I ordered a jersey for mr. majope to replace the one that started mine and later became mine again. It came, but he was in Finland again, so I couldn’t get a picture of him wearing it.
He’s home again, but it seems sort of silly to get a new picture when the jersey is identical to the one he used to have. So here are the old pictures—just imagine that the jersey is new and that there aren’t any leaves on the trees:

Anyone in the UK got their stuff yet?
Mine (ordered to a UK address) is still absent! And Christmas has gone!
Hmmmm, what is this lovely package in the mail today?
Why it appears to be my PdC kit. And Yeah!!! I managed to order the correct size. Hmmm… perhaps tomorrow I’ll test it out on the bike. Oh, this should be interesting.
