hmmm, "rat dog" and babies do not mix (generally the smaller the dog, the less accepting of babies)

Indeed

Molly is in for a rude shock not only when the kid arrives but when she (inevitably) tries to force the “him/her or me!” issue as so many pets foolishly do.
