Who is the ALL-TIMES best Cyclocross rider???

I have been guilty of not spending enough time studying cyclocross racing. It is a fabulous section of our beloved sport. It is huge in Europe and rapidly growing in the USA and the rest of the world. To help resolve my relative ignorance in this area I have categorized what I believe are the best CX riders.

But I need the help of a few knowledgeable cycling historians. What is your opinion of the best CX rider:

"Ants don’t worry, they operate like a fantastic team, they accept obstacles and deal with them in a positive manner, they don’t complain and remain positive. An ant doesn’t work on emotion, is proactive and always chooses the ant role."

It wasn't until I'd raced a season of cyclocross

That I realized just how bad his technique is.

As much as I love Nys, he does not touch Erik de Vlaeminck

Nys is getting put on a pedestal because we see him race 50 times a year and we haven’t seen De Vlaeminck or Liboton in their prime.

Great input...

I’d love to see YouTube videos of De Vlaeminck and Liboton.

If any of our resident CX experts

could use this thread to link tasty video footage of the past greats (past for me meaning anything before I started watching it last year) it would be greatly appreciated. I would have guessed Renato Longo was an opera singer, so not really feeling qualified to vote…

in regards to World Championship Victories, you are counting u-23 and juniors? Because Sven has only won once in the Elites.

Well, Liboton certainly has an opinon on the matter ;)

I'm feverished, or the way you want to spell it

Whoever he is, he looks great for 50.

It seems as though Cavendish rides faster on some climbs than the fastest climbers in front of the race. Danilo Hondo

On the 0.1% chance that Roger De V might see this,

could we add Niels Albert to the list, and rig it so that he always has one more vote than Erik De V?

Haha

Please, yes, let’s do this! :D

That would be soooo good...

I would have a nervous tick every ’cross season for the rest of my life. Niels being rated better than EDV shudder

by Vlaanderen90 on Dec 9, 2011 2:02 AM EST up reply actions

from my limited knowledge of this sport, Sven is the CURRENT Mr.Cyclocross, but

EDV has collected even more national/world jersey, and the success of today’s Belgian team is his making

If by saying Europe you actually mean Belgium

I guess cross is indeed huge.

I voted Liboton because I shook his hand once.

Me like bike, no?

Hanka Kupfernagel is easily better than them.

Adri van der Poel

After an excellent road career, he took to cyclocross and promptly won a world championship. I know it isn’t much to go on, but I can only imagine what he would have done during his prime years had he put his full effort into it.
