If you log in at the VDS website
and go to the My Team page (that’s where you end up when logging in, anyway) you will see a link near the top of the page: “Check the submission deadline!” It links to a popup window with the submission deadline and the EXACT hours, minutes and seconds remaining.
Great. Time to help the kid throw together a Doctor Who-themed team
which we’ll do in about 20 minutes—and if history repeats itself, his team will beat my agonized-over-for-weeks by at least a couple hundred points.

After many, many, many, (...), many last minute changes...
…team Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except Fabian and His Motor is now registered.
I feel so free now. And then, Saturday, the regrets will start to kick in.
That's why I pulled the plug a few days ago.
I needed to relieve the stress of the looming submit button.

I couldn't use my name from last year (Edvald in the Sky with Diamonds)
But I kept the Beatles theme
I decided Less Than Optimal was a little too apt for last year's team...
…had to retire that one.
My last choice was between my current team name
and Mean Mr McQuaid.
Both seemed good… and there is always next year for the one I didn’t use.
I need help
Is Lance riding both the Giro and Tour this year or just the Tour? Only sincere answers, please!
I think three things will determine this:
1. The Feds doping case progression
2. RadioShacks early season performance
3. Sponsor sitaution in late April
My current view on prob.
None: 85%
Tour : 10%
Both: 5%
Seriously,
the retirement announcement was unofficial (shhh) and is really just a great big sandbagging ploy. He’s planning on showing Contador how to do the triple. If you don’t put Lance on your team for 6 measly points you’ll regret it.

I hit submit last night
and have been in doubt ever since. I was so sure I had found the perfect combo, but now I keep seeing names of riders I want to add. Can I have a 50 man VDS team please?
I like tinkering with the boys.
- majope
only 50?
I think I have picked at least 80 riders in the last month… now the final team is done. I’ll wait until this night (euro time) if someone crash in Sardegna, and then… submit! How many belgians in your team? Ten italians for me :-)
I have about that many Australians :(

I may have two Belgians this year...I'm feeling very chuffed...

I love that word "chuffed"
I wish we used it in the USA…. but then the more I consider this I realize it wouldn’t be as cute to me if it was commonplace.

I may have an Italian on my Ed's League team.
Regular VDS team make up:
4 each Australians and Hollanders
3 each Americans and Flandrians
2 each Brits and Germans
1 each Austrian, Canadian, French, Luxembourger, Kiwi, Norwegian, and Slovakian.
It's really cool--Heinrich Haussler, on Barbie Barbie
I've stacked my team with Brits
mainly as I have heard of the British riders who are worth 2 or 4 points, but not those from further afield.
It’ll help me remember who to cheer for as well.
12 different countries for mine... was interesting to check out from where
5 Belgians, Italians
3 australians
2 Swiss, Dutch, German
1 Kazak, Lithuanian, Russian, spanish, Norwegian, Austrian
"the rest was over 30. And that doesn't mean old and useless, but experienced and with the stamina"

I have 12 too

Hi
I didnt see tour of Beijing on the calendar. anything i missed?
I think it will be a World Tour race this year.
Velonation is carrying a story about the course getting approval. But I’d swear I looked for the race on the UCI website and it wasn’t there a few weeks ago.
The UCI website currently has an asterisk next to the event as they haven’t received their license to run the event yet.

I just submitted my team last night with almost no thought at all….haven’t had time to do research recently – not of the cycling kind anyway! I pretty much just picked guys I like and ones with good names. Hopefully it will turn out better than last years carefully planned out team, though. Would be hard to do worse…
My team from last year disagrees with you...
Much to my shame. I think I still owe you an album from our side bet.

Team Azenarioa p/b Txakoli is now official.
The team presentation was held last night in Upminster Church Hall. Much txakoki was imbibed. Today, however, the training started. I took them up the fearsome Old Church Hill on the outskirts of Basildon, which separated the men from the boys.

leap too long into the abyss, and the
… Oh, hang on, that’s not it.
"Unsubmitted" (dir. Clint Eastwood, 2011)
Deserted main street of a frontier town, rusting bicycle wheels lean against the hitching post.
Discarded gel wrappers flutter in the dry wind that blows in from the prairie.
A young man hurries along the dusty street, and looks nervously around before pushing open the swing doors to the saloon.
A wizened old timer looks up from a corner table, then goes back to his whiskey bottle.
Alone at the bar sits a tall, lean figure in a poncho and cowboy hat, hunched over a cup of steaming black coffee. A large coffee pot stands on the bar next to him.
“Hey mister!” says the young man, who we now notice is dressed incongruously in tightly fitting lycra.
“Hey, are you Mister Voigt?”
Slowly, Jens! (for it is he) turns his head, and looks the young man up and down.
“Boy, you should leave here and return home. There is much pain in this place.”
“Mister, Uncle Fabian says you was the meanest goddamn son of a bitch alive. And if I ever wanted a partner for a killing, you were the worst one.”

Where the f*** is Rujano?
I’ve been holding off on submitting to see if he would surface somewhere.
He’s supposed to be riding the Giro for Androni, and he was at the team presentation… but he hasn’t ridden a race yet, and he’s not on any of their rosters for the upcoming races (whilst Serpa has been very visible). I guess we have to assume he’s gone of the rails again, I thought he be fun to have on the team, but I can’t pick him unless I see he’s actually riding a bike somewhere.
Anyone know?
He's training at home in Venezuela.
Can’t remember if his first race is T-A or Trentino. One of them. At any rate there’s nothing wrong with him.

We need to waste some time speculating on the statistics…
Most popular rider? – might have been the 2pt carrot until he was pureed, maybe the 1pt carrot? or maybe Sagan overtook them both in a late run
The 2 pt carrot is not the top rider picked
He might have lost some popularity when he had his boo boo.

As near as I can determine...
…his crash happened at exactly the same time I hit submit, with him on my team.
I’d like to take this opportunity apologize to Taylor, his family, and all the other VDS’s who were counting on him.
So not the 1-pt carrot either? he also stuck out, because he was the only 1-pointer with 100 points in 2010 I think? (although I didn’t pick him myself, just to be cool and sophisticated)
if not Egoi or Sagan, then…. maybe Michael Matthews because he was so in-your-face early in the year?

Having said that, Ted or anyone with an admin login would be able to see that the riders I’d assembled (42 of them, hadn’t made my final cuts) weren’t exactly going to put me in reach of the podium.
