This is a great game

Thanks for putting it all together. I can’t believe you have to score it by hand. Now thts dedication! I’m handing out virtual Leffe’s since that’s what we do here now. Here’s a six pack for bethie – but once we hit Europe, I’m coming after you!

by platypus on Feb 28, 2011 9:55 AM EST up reply actions

Monty and Jens

are doing the scoring. Pretty awesome. I would cry if I had to look at spreadsheets as often as they do ;)

by Jen See on Feb 28, 2011 12:18 PM EST up reply actions

By hand makes it sound harder than it is

I suspect that the data entry bit for the men’s game takes about as much effort as this does.

by Monty. on Feb 28, 2011 1:28 PM EST up reply actions

True

The dude’s game does require data entry too. But it also spits out standings and updates and such automatically. And well, you do a lot of work, so I’m going to keep saying you’re awesome :)

Hmmm...I'm guessing you gave jersey points to Arndt for the crit day, even though it wasn't part of the Tour of NZ?

Okay. Questions:

Where did Villumsen’s 6 points come from?

Also, 6 extra points on your sheet vs. mine for Teutenberg and Andruk—pretty sure Arndt was race leader throughout?

by majope on Feb 27, 2011 12:13 PM EST reply actions

Gah. You also have only 124 teams listed--I have 131 (not counting the team that was all X's).

What happened to the other 7?

Not trying to be a pain, just want to reconcile my spreadsheet with yours.

by majope on Feb 27, 2011 12:23 PM EST up reply actions

I can say from experience

The teams with no points are not listed. What is the prize for the Laterne Rouge?

by frans verbiage on Mar 1, 2011 5:14 PM EST up reply actions

What I have

ToNZ was basically 4 stages in the end. Then there were crits that are counted as separate races. Arndt got 3 X 6p for holding the jersey throughout. Villumsen got 6 points for 4:th in the first crit, Arndt 6p for fourth in the second crit.

Only the teams that have scored end up on our result sheet so the donuts will not appear until one of their riders score.

by Jens on Feb 27, 2011 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

Why did you go to 4th place?

I yearn for the cobbles--Edvald Boasson Hagen

by majope on Feb 27, 2011 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

Because Monty told me too :-)

Long story. Players got some bonus points for fourth place this week. In the future Cat 3’s only top 3 will score. :-)

by Jens on Feb 27, 2011 12:51 PM EST up reply actions

You're just making shit up as you go along, then.

Okay, just warn people in advance next time you decide to change the scoring rules.

So, 6 points for 4th places added to:

Stage 1 Joanne Hogan
Stage 2 Ina-Yoko Teutenberg
Stage 3 Alana Andruk
Stage 4 Jeanne Kuhajek
Crit 1 Linda Melanie Villumsen
Crit 2 Judith Arndt

Right? (And yes, I see that you aren’t tracking riders who weren’t picked by anyone—I just want to keep track for next year’s picking purposes).

I yearn for the cobbles--Edvald Boasson Hagen

by majope on Feb 27, 2011 1:05 PM EST up reply actions

Make that Alona Andruk.

by majope on Feb 27, 2011 1:06 PM EST up reply actions

Move to strike!

I think the unannounced 4th place points should be stricken from the record.

by tedvdw on Feb 27, 2011 1:08 PM EST up reply actions

it's easily done

but honestly , who gives a shit about 6 extra points in the grand scheme of things?

by Jens on Feb 27, 2011 1:10 PM EST up reply actions

My team is eternally grateful, thank you very much.

i knew something was wrong,

i’m in the frickin top 20. I couldn’t find my team anywhere – looked in all the usual places. Had to do a search to find it.

by yeehoo on Feb 27, 2011 1:31 PM EST up reply actions

I'd suggest either scoring all Cat 3s down to 4th place now

or if you want to pick certain races to do that for, pick them now and post a list of the Cat 3A races that will be scored differently.

Just doing it off the top of your head could come back and bite you on the ass if scoring ends up close, and you don’t have any good answer for why you chose to reward certain teams over others.

I yearn for the cobbles--Edvald Boasson Hagen

by majope on Feb 27, 2011 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

Yes

Also, I know I will lose all interest of the scoring is done randomly.

by tedvdw on Feb 27, 2011 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

down to 4th gives more people points

and so would keep people interested… although it also gives the SSRs more influence on the game than they would do in the men’s. The real life importance of the Tour of NZ, f’rinstance is different to the actual – but we suffer from a lack of races in general (sob, I miss l’Aude and the Grand Boucle!) – so if we did score down to 4th, I’d say do it across the board, so the big races are still more important than the smaller ones

I’m possibly not making explaining myself well!

by Sarah Connolly on Feb 27, 2011 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

It was not done randomly

It was due to a misunderstanding of how the scoring sheet worked.
Since it seems to be a huge issue the sheet is now updated to confirm with the scoring outlined in the rules. 6×6 points are gone. Order is restored in the universe.

A disgusting first week performance.

Even if I am not the only one with zero points, just don’t like not having any points on a scoreboard. Oh, to hell with it, decided to drop out and buy a couple of boxes of beer. The team is up and running, lets celebrate.

by Uphill on Feb 27, 2011 3:29 PM EST reply actions

yes, being one of nine ø point teams does suck

I guess things might pick up, but when I see some teams have 800 already on the board I begin to wonder if Vos can pull me out of this hole…

by gait_analyst on Feb 27, 2011 3:45 PM EST up reply actions

Well, we could make a competition to see who gets out of the hole first.

Your Vos puts you in the driving seat, but I have significant believe in Pooley.

by Uphill on Feb 27, 2011 3:54 PM EST up reply actions

Vos isn't necessarily a plus in this race

Because of track worlds she won’t be at the first WC race Alfredo Binda.

by Jens on Feb 27, 2011 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

But to be fair, it's not her fault.....

… rant rant rant UCI no need to schedule track Worlds against Alfredo Bind & RvV, the bastards, rant rant etc etc

by Sarah Connolly on Feb 27, 2011 4:46 PM EST up reply actions

however

the night to buy a ticket for Apeldoorn may be the one where she could do this again

by andrewp on Feb 27, 2011 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

Me too!

Imagining the moment when she steps onto the track & the crazy Dutchies all go crrrrrraaaaaaaaaaazy!

by Sarah Connolly on Feb 27, 2011 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

She remains

the Cam Meyer + of Womens Points Racing – unbeatable on form.

And pound for pound – for a woman of her age to win that medal as she did, may just be the most extraordinary piece of cycling I will ever watch.

by andrewp on Feb 27, 2011 5:06 PM EST up reply actions

If we have a fast car

standing by at the finish after watching Dwars door Vlaanderen we can just make the evening session with the points race in Apeldoorn. We can’t be troubled by petty matters such as “traffic rules” and “speedlimits” though or we might not make it.

by Jens on Feb 27, 2011 5:12 PM EST up reply actions

Like the way you think

(Sadly having been to Cheltenham will be busy working so I can get to Aintree – following two sports can be hell etc…)

Will be a great day though. Go if you can I say
The Wed eve also has Mens TS, TP, Scratch race & Womens 500m TT gold races

Tickets available for €17-23

Am I helping?

by andrewp on Feb 27, 2011 6:03 PM EST up reply actions

I was kidding

I did look at going down to watch Dwars -Worlds(thu-fr) -(E3 perhaps) but the timing and logistics weren’t optimal this time.

by Jens on Feb 27, 2011 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

Assumed you were.

Sounds a bit like my attempt to get there. Even got as far as bookmarking the ticket site, but never quite made it past the planning stage for other reasons.
(On the bright side – a FW/LBL trip is now a go. Now just hoping FW races are half as good as last years)

by andrewp on Feb 28, 2011 10:22 AM EST up reply actions

The Vos dilemma

She comes to road racing later than a lot of them…. but is likely to bring in points by the bagful, once she’s back

by Sarah Connolly on Feb 27, 2011 4:48 PM EST up reply actions

Darn it.... I'm THIS close to cracking the top 70.

Next week I’ll be moving up… Yea yea, that’s it.

I assume that if we can't our names, it means we're sitting on zero?

Look at the tabs at the bottom

all the teams and riders are listed on the next pages. We just tried to avoid rubbing in how badly some people are doing.

by Monty. on Feb 28, 2011 1:32 PM EST up reply actions

Hello Everyone, it's me!

The person in first place! Hello! Pay attention I have something important to say.

The very first year the VDS was held here at Podium Café, I was in first place the first week.

From there I plummeted to last, never to recover. hahahaha

It’s quite an honor though to hold first place in this new competition. I’d like to thank all the little people who I stepped on to get here. xo

I asked myself, why is that frisbee getting bigger, and then it hit me.

This is very distressing bethie

I thought my season was going to just get better from here. Looking on the bright side however, I am doing really badly in the mens VDS, so it might come good, and more importantly, I also am beating Jens (!)

by platypus on Feb 28, 2011 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

800+ point lead.

I mean what was the max point allocation for the first week? 1300 or so?

Wohoo..! Top 10 in the first week!

The Aussies won’t be getting to Europe until after Oceanias generally. Obviously there’s one or two there early. Interesting to see how many picked Southern Hemisphere riders. Not sure if that means they’re good riders or they just ride for themselves
