Dwars: Nuyens and Thomas Outfox the Hounds
Nick Nuyens of Saxo Bank won today's Dwars door Vlaanderen by sticking an attack that lasted to the finish, by no more than a second. Nuyens and Geraint Thomas of Sky battled it out for the final 2km while holding off a charging group of some 30 riders, following an escape of 15km.
Nobody could force the race to take shape until Nuyens and Thomas took responsibility and got a threatening advantage, while long-range attacker Frederic Amorison hitched on as well. A few small attacks tried to chase but nothing stuck until Garmin took up the chase. Garmin fought to the end, and got some help from Quick Step who fancied Boonen and/or Steegmans in the bunch sprint that always seemed on the verge of happening. But Thomas and Nuyens outfought them all. Nuyens in particular was a deserving winner, taking the lion's share of the pulls, and in the process securing his first win of consequence since 2007.

- Geraint Thomas, Sky
- Tyler Farrar, Garmin

Does this now not mean
Euskaltel are the last ProTour team without a race win so far this season?
This win had everything to do with preparation
SBS have done a wonderful job in coaching Nuyens for this win.
nice!
ive got the dreggs at 9&10 so far….
Tyler doing his own interview in what seems OK dutch/flemish
With a major accent. Very good natured, thanking all the young guys for the pulls, and praising all the famous classics (they sort of cut him off when he was going to praise them all)
"dumped for Greipel?!"
From what I could see, HH and Sep worked very hard to bring Tyler to the finish.
And pretty much by themselves.

His Dutch is more than ok
always understandable, just the accent is way off

His accent isn't that bad!
I can easily understand him. It’s not standard (northern) Dutch, of course, he lives in Gent.
Oh, way better than mine, for sure.
Still, the american accent comes through loud and clear (but kinda endearing) to my ear.
"dumped for Greipel?!"
His english accent is pretty appalling as well...
Warning... not everything I say should be taken entirely seriously
Marcato’s 5 place, not working as consolation prize for me!
I am disappointed.

My cobbled strategy is paying off…

MVP- Baden Cooke
Did you see the little bit of blocking he did at the final turn? Right where Garmin was winding it up, Cooke gets in the way for perhaps 1-2 seconds and messed up Garmin’s timing. That right there allowed Thomas and Nuyens to stay away.
I wasn't able to watch, but
Moments such as these are the embodiment of what is so great about cycling.
I just got home from work and I have points! Yeh! Tom and Geraint ! 13 of my 25 riders now have points, I don’t know if it’s good or bad but I am having fun with this.Sadly I will miss the live feed on a lot of races.I am on the pacific coast and work graveyard but it makes getting on the puter exciting!
Three races today and not a single point
My people just aren’t trying hard enough. Or it’s the race radio ban, I’m still deciding.
Dat was echt een schwalbe!
Thanks for the hope

One a scale 1 to 10
how was the race today?
Should I go through the trouble to download it?
look, if it's hurting me, the other one is going to be about to die now - Jens!

Nuyens, Hoste and Tommeke today.
Probably the pinnacle of my season.

Some key terminology emerged from todays proceedings
(1) Leading contenders when peloton splits = YAHOO GROUP
(2) Sep Vanmarcke’s moniker = GLAND
regarding Sep
that’s not the most complimentary term in french.
"Ants don’t worry, they operate like a fantastic team, they accept obstacles and deal with them in a positive manner, they don’t complain and remain positive. An ant doesn’t work on emotion, is proactive and always chooses the ant role."
thank you for making me google it
Are we sure that Sep isn’t riding for Wallonie Bruxelles, the team with the cock on the back?

I only saw glimpses (don't worry, I recorded it)
as I was waaaaaay too busy at work and I haven’t been able to steal a tv for myself yet -
Anyway.
How did Tombo look? That little Eikenberg test looked decent enough, no?

sweet
Thanks both.
He’s doing GW this weekend, not E3, fyi.

Wuyts said he's doing both
And Boonen rode a really crappy sprint today.
Even Leif sprinted faster…. that’s really really really bad sprinting!
QST just sent out a press release
+ tweet
Tombo is doing GW because QST needs those World Tour points to get their car up a few spots

Tombo looked better than Cance (who probably wasn't firing on all cylinders)

Definitely going to be my best day of the year.
Nuyens, Thomas, Hoste and Boonen! Up to #100-and-something!
Of course, last year I got up to #83 in the classics season… and ended in the low 200s, iirc.
Baden Cooke was 5th.

1. So let me get this straight: Rabobank signed Matti Breschel—last year’s Dwars winner, to replace Nick Nuyens—this year’s Dwars winner. Funny how that worked out, huh?
