Techs-Mechs: Campy Brake Help Needed

I recently purchased a new fork for my CAAD8 and when installing the front Record 10 (pre skeleton) brake caliper it appears that the brake bolt is too long.  The nut for the Ritchey Fork is deeply recessed and when the nut is fully tightened there is a large gap (over 5mm) between the serrated washer and the fork crown.  Apparently the brake bolt is too long.  I do have an unused Chorus rear brake with the shorter bolt but my question is, can I remove the shorter bolt and swap out the one that is too long?  Campy parts schematics seem to show this as a separate part but it seems difficult if not impossible to remove.  I don't want to add a pile of washers to the front of the fork and a shorter brake nut won't work (although I don't want to use anything other than the brake nut that came with the fork anyways).  Any tips?
