Garvelo brought their classics team

I played around with some of the TT rankings last night. Garvelo had the weakest time trialists among the super-teams.

Rabobank, Liquigas and HTC were much higher. Leopard was the highest but only because of Fabian.

Results are:

Rabobank – 19
Leopard-Trek 77
HTC-Highroad 52
Garmin-Cervelo 15
Liquigas 21

Take about Cance and Leopard drops to 13

I think the song was also mentioned, and may have been part of the inspiration for naming the rocket, but my memory of all this is super hazy. There’s definitely a whole set of associations with the name that made it seem apropos for the ‘russian team’.

SuperTed needs to rejigger the results page for TTT scoring first.

Looks like 6 Rabo finished together: Boom, Langeveld, Gesink, Tankink, Freire, and Leezer—all will get 8 points.

Then we need to track down the finishers for Garmin and HTC. TTT scoring always takes longer.

Yep,

the fact that you could enter the whole team is already new and I haven’t updated the ‘save’ function yet.

In a bit of a conundrum: I used to update TTTs by hand and give all riders on the winning team a placing of “1” which would reflect in their number of wins. However if use this new automated update, there hardly is a way of getting around giving them consecutive placings. That would mean the win would only show up for Boom, not the other Rabos.

4 Bram Tankink (Ned) Rabobank
5 Oscar Freire (Spa) Rabobank
6 Tom Leezer (Ned) Rabobank

Sucks that Visconti's at such a disadvantage.

I suppose he has bigger fish to fry for once, though.

not a chance

Basso getting seconds on Gesink, since his comeback he has only been dropped by the latter numerous times, in vuelta 09 and tour 10…
I’d put your cards on Evans, Pinotti or Nibali, if they manage to not lose more seconds that is.

Btw, why so suprised by Rabobank winning a TTT. You do know they have a young squad for years now, and they dominated TTT’s when they were espoirs with Rabo TT3 / Continental.
It just takes time to develop that talent. Now they are all 24/25/26/27… getting stronger each year.

This is why more teams should have youth development programs and contract those riders for 4/5 years and keep patience

Basso won the Giro.

In that Vuelta, Basso finished higher in the GC, although admittedly Gesink was injured. Then Basso won the Giro. Then Basso rode the Tour coming off the Giro win: why he didn’t have anything, I’d suggest. I don’t know whether this race really suits him though. Maybe better for someone punchier.

I don't see why

Scarponi isn’t looked upon as one of the men to beat. 1st then 2nd last two seasons. He’s not a great TTer, but not horrendous. He’ll attack on the climbs too.

And if it all stays relatively close on the climbs, then yes a TTer like Martin has a good shot, or Gesink given his TTT advantage. But could equally see Evans or even Ballan challenging. BMC could send Ballan off the front, and if he stays away then great. If it’s brought back together Evans can just follow then be strong at the end of the day, and in the TT.
I don’t think Basso is going to put himself out for this. And I think Nibali is focused solely on the Giro.

I think Scarpomi is similarly Giro focused as Nibali

Lampre didn’t hire him to win the T-A, they want the Giro. That said, the Cobbler is fairly even in his performances and could take this even if he is not 100%.

Thank you! It's a relief to see that the Classics boys came through.
