Etna erupts in the night - Airport temporarily closed
Between 2 and 6 this morning a "pit crater" on the eastern flank of the summit of Etna erupted, sending up lava and volcanic dust that landed on nearby houses in Catania. The airport is closed as a precaution until 11. The situation is being closely monitored.

I always ove it when they say in a natural disaster scenario
that the situation is being monitored closely – so they can do what exactly? Get better television pictures? Its not like they can do anything about it!
No fear
only the last 4km of road are affected and clean up groups are on their way. A wee bit of lava never hurt anyone, just don’t ask Pompeii.
You can't spell epic without Giro
And in any case they are only going halfway up the volcano
though Zomegnan is already planning the 2015 Etna stage, which will continue in the black ash up to the main craters – real men can do that on a road bike.
