Tour Of California Stage 2 Start Moved
The start of stage 2 has been moved to Nevada City and will commence at 12:15 PDT, the finish will now have three laps of the circuit instead of the original one.

Even with the cold and snow I am glad The Tour of California came here, otherwise I would not have had the opportunity to see it. It is sad to think that this will most likely make the high Sierra's a no go for the Tour in the future. Goodbye Lake Tahoe, looking forward to coming back amid better weather some day, Beautiful place!

could snow ANYtime during the summer in the High country
That’s why August would be such a good time to race at Tahoe, so refreshing!

In the Cascades I have been snowed on in June, July, August, September…

to be fair
that’s the same for the Giro and the Tour – I’ve cycled to the (fresh) snow line in Switzerland in August

This is what they really missed out on as a promotional angle.
They were going to ride through a part of the Ponderosa from the Bonanza TV show Note the lake is Tahoe and the north/south axis is tipped on the map at the beginning of the theme so actually the Ponderosa takes up most of the east shoreline. Yeeha!

They've got to come back
Only place more beautiful in California than Lake Tahoe is Yosemite (and if ToC could pull off a Stage in Yos, then we’ve really got something), so I think they’ll be back. The ride around Tahoe is too compelling to not try again. And, both Northstar and Squaw could use the publicity for summer/spring activities, so I think they’d be game for hosting start/finish again.
I hope they try again
I also hope they have a rock solid contingency if it snows again. Plan B should have been enacted Saturday by 5pm to give the fans, riders and authorities time to change course. Even if it’s just a criterium or uphill time trial somewhere the snow is not too bad.
I picked Riccardo Ricco for my 2011 VDS team, and submitted said team well before the submission deadline. I fully understand the error of my ways, and plead with the VDS Gods to allow me to resubmit my team.
