A big thanks to Versus TV

for showing the women's time trial on their magazine show today May 20 on television. Women bike racers, on American TV. Women, bike, racing, on American TV! Phil and Paul commentating! About women bike racers, on American TV! It was a time trial, and American TV showed it, on Versus! Thank you Versus!

So, would you watch more of women's bike racing if it was shown on American TV? I would. Yes indeedie, I surely would. I'm going to write to Versus and thank them for showing women's bike racing on TV. How about you? Even if it was just 12 minutes or so interspersed with the men's racing, well, I can't remember the last time I saw women bicycle racing on American TV.

So unless you're taken by the Rapture, why don't you drop an email to Versus and thank them for the women's coverage. Maybe it'll help get the women some better coverage and money and sponsorship. Just sayin.

Well, that was a good idea but I can't find a feedback link to Versus so forget it. Still, it was way cool to see the women racers on American TV.

They deserve thanks for this.

It's not

“”mailto:feedback@versus.com" target="_blank">feedback@versus.com" anymore. And that’s all I could find on the net. But I did try.

No bother

They’re TV execs, they won’t be around after the rapture.

And they negate that by not showing the Baldy stage live

got to show Indy 500 practice…thrilling. Plus their coverage is so clearly inferior to Universal’s. So I really can’t get myself to say anything nice about that network except I look forward to their cycling coverage being shifted to US. Of course I support more women’s cycling being shown on American TV and I think it will be more likely to happen on US where they already have cross races and track.

+1 billion

I wish Schlanger and Go-Go could call the Tour. Phil and Paul aren’t bad or anything, but they’re not nearly as good as they probably think they are. And don’t get me started about all the piddling crap Versus cuts away from the race for (Dr. Allen Lim’s rice cake recipes…I really, really wish I was making that up). It’s less so on the live coverage (which thankfully I’ll get to watch this year) than on the prime-time replay (two words: Craig Hummer. ’nuff said), but US actually shows the race. What a concept!

i'm sorry, i'll take anyone but bob roll over those universal sports commentators.

So was it only shown on Versus?

Is there any way non-USAians can get to see it? I was told it wasn’t on the livefeed…

I don't mean to be condenscending

but how many do remember the year (2003) Versus, then OLN, showed the Giro, the Tour and the Vuelta all in the same year. The next year they showed the Giro and the Tour, and after that…not so much bike racing on American TV. The Tour, and a few magazine programs showing the spring classics.

Y’all can take the piss, but at least they have been the consistent channel. For those of us who don’t have the luxury of unlimited bandwidth, I have to say I’m much appreciative of Versus, Phil and Paul.

Universal Sports is free and over-the-air

It’s not available everywhere, but check your listings, chances are you get it.

We don't

I believe Comcast owns them, and it’s not available in our area. Wish we did get it.

last checked, only 30 markets around the country, and you need a digital receiver to get it.

Who doesn't have one of those?

They were free through the government for like a year and a half.
