lots of new bike-friendly legislation (various US states)
USA today highlights some new 3 ft passing laws, tracking of "dooring," etc. It's a good day when "dooring" enters the lexicon for USA Today readers, with a description that places blame correctly ("when motorists carelessly open doors and cyclists crash into them").

The comments show how much farther things need to go.
I really hope that happens, but ti is really going to need a total level initiative throughout the entire system similar to how the 55mph speed limit was established.
What would Deming do? (+8:00 GMT)
Culture culture culture
Turning the cyclist from an idea into a person that everyone knows will be about the only thing that can really change things in the US.
The only good thing to come out the Georgia General Assembly this year.
Seriously. It was a truly dreadful session. The cycling community deserves a huge pat on the back for getting this legislation through.
Extra credit to Georgia
And specifically to Lt. Casey Cagle* for pulling this off. Cycling issues have somehow turned into a political culture war issue, and thus we end up with things like the failure of the 3 foot to pass rule in Virginia: repeatedly defeated by a party line vote.
I’ll be talking up the Georgia action as an example of what can happen when we personalize cycling – Casey Cagle’s a cyclist, and despite Nathan Deal being a (troglodyte) Republican and the state otherwise being ass-backwards on transportation issues, that personalization helped make the law a matter of personal decency and not some political game. More like this, please.
*Who can generally be credited with being a very large part of why the Tour de Georgia survived as long as it did.
worst governor ever
he actually kept some reporters out of a press conference last week because they’d done some reporting on his shady dealings that he wasn’t happy with. complete and total turd. but to be fair and not bash republicans too much, he used to be a democrat. whichever way the blows i guess.
"Ants don’t worry, they operate like a fantastic team, they accept obstacles and deal with them in a positive manner, they don’t complain and remain positive. An ant doesn’t work on emotion, is proactive and always chooses the ant role."
You could keep "troglodyte" and drop "republican"
and I’m guessing nobody would miss the point. Just saying.

But the point is
that it’s very much turned into a situation where Republican = anti-cyclist. Unless you were thinking I was equating Republican to troglodyte and being redundant. I would never do that.
And I was pointing out that, in the name of avoiding party politics,
you could say it had become “partisan,” and stick in a link. Not because I personally have a problem with party politics, not because I fail to notice that cycling has a “culture war” aspect in the US, but because avoiding explicit partisan stuff is one of the keystones at PdC. And arguably, in a small way, it gives us a chance to bridge the real-world partisan polemica, which has value in itself.

Don't really see the value
of obscuring a fact that is central to my point, and directly relevant to advancing the interests of cyclists. This wasn’t a gratuitous insult.
No reason except the "no politics" rule here.

Over 100 people participated in the local "Ride with the Mayor" last week. Encouraging.
Many more drank the beer afterward. Mayor rode a sweet Electra Amsterdam as seen below. Suspiciously non-troglodyte. Goofy as these events can be, I do think they help the cause.

what city?

Nevada Too
3 foot rule takes effect on 10/11.
