Not a shattering surprise, but sad all the same.

Good decsion to cap of a solid career.
I will remember some of the solo rides and wins. Chapeau.
Yep, I knew it is coming, of course!
Sad. But I think it was right decision.

He'll be missed.
One of my favorites, but it does seem as if it’s time.
It does seem time
Maybe more a motivation problem than anything else. Not much else to shoot for for him.
Focus on easy first. If that's all you get, that ain't half bad - Caballo Blanco
he could at least have finished the VDS season
but it’s sad to see him go. i always liked watching him race. probably the right decision though. he hasn’t seemed like the Carlos of old in a while.

Thanks for the entertainment Carlos. I've enjoyed watching you race.

Thank you Carlos for your riding, it has been a pleasure to watch you.
In the beginning of 2008 I had only one wish and that was to see Bjarne Riis team win TdF with Carlos, and truth to tell I had not much hope that the wish would be granted, so the happiness was great when it came true.
When that was accomplished my next wish was to see Cadel win the TdF and hard to believe as it may be, that also came true.
Now my wish is to see Contador win all the races he wants to win :)
Great career for a great rider...one of my favorites
for me, in my opinion, when he won the Tour it was the first win a quite sometime I really felt stoked about…
I don’t know if that’s been replicated since, but Evans probably was right there…. or the same.
Very good career...such consistency too who up until fairly recently was working for others in GTs
He might not have been the same the last couple of years but I’m going to miss him
los Sastre for many years.
He seems like a genuinely nice guy. Anyway, thanks for all the fun following your career.

Aside from the obvious answer (Lance), Sastre is one of the guys who really got me into the sport
May 2009, and I have only over-the-air TV viewing options. I pick up an NBC digital subchannel called Universal Sports, and they’re showing the Giro d’Italia. Oh, cool, I’ve watched the Tour a few times, this should be fun….
Suffice it to say, Sastre’s two excellent solo stage wins really captured my imagination and made me a big fan of his. A bit unfortunate that that was the last time he was ever the slightest bit relevant, but I’ll definitely remember him fondly.
best wishes to him.
i’ll miss him. though he’d clearly lost a pedal stroke or two the past two seasons, he never stopped trying. as much as i’ll never forget his yellow jersey in 2008, i’ll never forget him leaving everything on the road trying to win a stage in 2010. good luck, carlos.
Awww, I love this dude.
His win on the Alpe d’Huez is one of my favorites, though I think Pierre Rolland this year is probably tops for me now.
Super liked watching him :)

Probably couldn't face the humiliation of being priced at 2 points in next year's VDS
Sad… but a classy guy going out on a classy note.
Start fast, finish fast, and hope you're fast enough-- Cadel Evans
A true champion.
Sad to see him go, but not unexpected. His win on Alpe d’Huez and Tour win, as well as his sequences in “Overcoming” will always be favorites. Chapeau Carlos.
Best wishes
for the future. Was he the rider Cadel mentioned as offering to help him with water when he had no team support? I believe he was.It is the little things like that I love about this sport and what makes riders my favorites.
Yes...yet another reason to love the little guy :)

I absolutely adore Sastre!
Years ago…when we attended a CSC training camp in Northern California….Sastre went out of his way to make us comfortable. I will NEVER forget how gracious he was with us!!
One of my most prized cycling possessions is a TdF yellow jersey signed by Sastre, I am embarrassed to admit that after I interviewed him….I pulled the jersey out of my bag for him to sign. I just did not want to lose the opportunity. He chuckled and signed away. I know it was pretty cheesy of me to do this but…..every time I see the jersey I just smile. He was an incredible athlete…but more important he was an amazing man. I will miss cheering for him!
This made me a little misty. I'm so glad you have such a fine memento.

always been my favourite
His TDF win was such a great moment and truly deserved for an incredibly courageous and enigmatic rider. I’ll miss you Carlos – a class act.
I never knew that much about him
but I was happy when he won the TdF and I loved how he talked about using the recongition to help children’s charities. He always seemed like a classy man and a real professional.
