[Chris jumping in] All of this is happening on the pages of CN, but the organizer has jumped in quickly to assure that losing the race is not happening. The CN follow-up piece dissects the situation much better, finding that Gazet van Antwerpen (who by the way sponsors a major Cross series and whose interests are conflicted here, to say the least) announced that the organization has no major sponsors. But Bruce Fina, director of the Louisville event, assures us that he has plenty of sponsors, and they simply haven't signed contracts because they're waiting for the UCI to finalize the TV rights agreement. Translation: the UCI is holding things up. Big shocker. Here's my favorite quote:
I find it hard to imagine that the UCI would tell something like this to the press without informing us first.
