FINAL WORLD CUP RACE

Hoogerheide is in Holland, but it’s so close to Belgium that you won’t know you’re in Dutchie land. It’s also really really close to the Kalmthout-Essen area, so Aernouts, Meeusen, Styby, Pauwels and Sanne Cant will feel right at home. There’s not too much height difference – it is les pays bas you know – just one bridge and one steep climb. It’s fast too, the riders only have to get off the bike twice.

Nys

“A little disappointing. I missed by start cause I picked the wrong tyres. I changed my wheels and I got stuck around 20-25s but if they really race hard in the front you can’t catch up. At the end I got fourth cause I was best in that chase group. I went hard for one lap and I didn’t get any closer, so I stuck with the chase group. No one in that group was good enough to help me. I missed my start and that was my own fault. The World Cup isn’t gone yet, and I’m not giving up.”

“World cup selections… I leave that to the coach. I did ok, but in the end I made to many mistakes cause I had the wrong tyres. I needed Rhinos in the end. I gambled, but… Well, overall I’m content.”

I'll be damned

if this is not Nys junior. Same position on the bike!

Who is th bigger one Thibault rides with?

I’m assuming it’s Nys junior too, they always show a mini-Nys in proper kit, hitting some hard part of the course after the race is over

I think Nys has only one child

and actually the bigger kid might be Tibs. It’s been a few years, hasn’t it?

“Today I checked out the others, especially Bart Aernouts and Sven VT, but something must’ve happened to them and they fell back. So I was safe compared to them. But then I got stuck in a big group and if you got knocked back some it was hard to keep up, but I did well I think. I don’t think the coach expected me to win here, and I still had something left in the end, so…”

So, Pauwels has the World Cup sewn up?

What would have to happen for Nys to win? (apart from Pauwels dnf?)

If you decide to try,

I can recommend Overplay. I use a Mac, seamless interface. From the U.S., service has been excellent to all of Europe. I think it’s a U.K.-based company, so I assume they will be equally good from there. Definitely worth paying the small amount for a non-free service.

And yes, I’m deliberately trying to hide this in a comment at the end of a CX race, or 1000 PdCers might overload their Belgian servers in a couple of months….

Something to point out (if the following is indeed true): Stybar was on an aluminum bike & started on 5th row. And won. #Lievin

Makes a lot more sense

thought he couldn’t be gridded that far back

Huh, he did have to start from the fifth row

cause he was late to the start. So, his own damn fault.

Oh, tsk tsk tsk

Wait, maybe we should make him late to the start every race if this is the outcome.
