2.5 km to the nearest train station, not too bad

although I don’t have MTB shoes, so I had to walk / push-bike on carbon soles with spd-r metal road cleats.

No fun.

Just a little too cold to take them off?

Definitely!

+3ºC / 37ºF and mostly frozen (or frosted, really) top soil on the forest floor.

I walked a looong way home, summer of 2005

Had to take the shoes off and go barefoot. That was no picnic either, not much skin left in the end

Um. Well.

You poor thing. Shoe-loving Euro wusses. That must have been dreadful.

Are you still walking?

The PdC search and rescue helicopters have been despatched.
Unfortunately, they are based in Seattle.

Short steep sandy ramp,

and of course the mega watts I pump out of my thighs.

It’s a cheap bike but it works well. OK, worked.

sure, cheap. Winter bike of cause.

Fixed gear? Thinking of switching to fixed gear bike these days, perhaps “full” time.

No, it has a 3x8

but I hardly ever use more than 3 different gears. It’s quite flat here.

Flat.

Same here. I find myself using only two gears now. Grinding my way.

marmotte-girbecco combo is my favorite juice during rides

make sure you get the all natural one without any apple juice in it.

It just occurs to me!!!

Technical Director of VDS, Member of the Pricing Committee! Alone in the forest, without security details!
On the eve ( almost ) of the unveilings of the new 2012 VDS season! I am speechless!
Speechless!

Yes

I have two or three at home but had none with me. This was the first time in 22 years on sporty bikes that my chain broke. After I replace the chain, I won’t take a chain tool with me on future rides.
