Tour of San Luis (preview)

Well I never did a preview of a race so don't kill me..!

Tour of San Luis is basically a new race in the calendar for a lot of people, this is just the 6TH edition of it.. The winner of 2010 edition is someone we all know and are familiar with no other then Vincenzo Nibali. Yes is a very good race for climbers.

Argentina, San Luis is in the middle of the hot humid summer, so yes you can add some extra suffering to all the climb that are to come in this 7 stage South American Tour...! Stages? Here they come..!!!

Star-divide

Stage 1 Monday January 23TH

1 KOM (climb of cat 3)

2 Intermediate sprints.

The last 3 Km will look like this:

Stage 4 January 26TH

TT.... What else can I add to this?

Etapa04a_medium

I can tell you that it will help a good reult here but won't dictate the result of the race...

Stage 5 January 27TH

2 Intermediate sprints

2 KOM's

I know you want a closer look at that finish... Wait me too here it comes...!

This last climb the one at the finish is about 7 km of nice climb..! Average 8.75% gradient... 2 km to finish is 15.5 % up, 1km to finish 14.5% last few meters 5.5% .... Now we know why Nibali and Rasmussen (yes the chicken is going to be there)Like this Tour.

Stage 6 January 28TH

1 Intermediate sprint.... Finish is for sprinters if they survive.

3 KOMs....

Here is a map of the stage....

Nice job, Pablo

Will be interesting to see if Levi goes for the win.

I believe is going to be a hell of a fight for the GC.

Contador: Going to leave everything there too, no one knows if he is going to race another race this year.
Nibali: defending champion, never want to loose to Contador.
Chicken: Well he is the super chicken. He wasn’t in Mexico lately right?
Levi: always a candidate..! And a strong one..!
Colombians: Hey South america is home to them.
And is a local guy that I can’t remember who he is. But they are hoping he does well.

Last Year's Winner

Nice review and you’re right, it’s going to be an interesting race.

Vicenzo Nibali is not the defending champion, he won in 2010. Last year’s winner, Marco Arriagado (Chile), was subsequently banned for doping but I’m not sure whether he was stripped of his title. He’s still shown as the winner on the race’s official website.

Great preview

this race about the only South Americans get to mix it up with the top Europeans.

It seems as though Cavendish rides faster on some climbs than the fastest climbers in front of the race. Danilo Hondo

For now, I am sure at some point Colombia will host one race of this level. Great place to bike just people (bad people) made it unsafe… Great country and country side..

Thanks Pablo!

an ITT and a 190km stage. Not bad for a race so early in the season. I’m guessing they’ll be using their roadbekes for the TT.

The Richeze brothers!

I haven’t seen those names in a while. Max FTW!

by broerie on Jan 20, 2012 3:31 AM EST up reply actions

That is a good question

will look for that answer around to see what can I find about what kind of bikes will they use for the TT. I know for a fact that to bring a bike from Europe to here is somewhere around 200 Dollars. Richese brothers only two racing. where are the other 2?

Oh, this looks so good....

Nibali and Contador fighting it out, Levi in the mix and Tommeke! A bunch of Columbians and it’s all in Argentina. What’s not to love? Only that I’m not there – next year I must visit my friend in Mendoza and time it right.

He has a tendency to win a race in every month up until the summer, then he’s done pretty well in the Tour too before closing up for the year around 3 Aug.
