Tour of San Luis (preview)
Well I never did a preview of a race so don't kill me..!
Tour of San Luis is basically a new race in the calendar for a lot of people, this is just the 6TH edition of it.. The winner of 2010 edition is someone we all know and are familiar with no other then Vincenzo Nibali. Yes is a very good race for climbers.
Argentina, San Luis is in the middle of the hot humid summer, so yes you can add some extra suffering to all the climb that are to come in this 7 stage South American Tour...! Stages? Here they come..!!!
Stage 1 Monday January 23TH
1 KOM (climb of cat 3)
2 Intermediate sprints.
The last 3 Km will look like this:
Sprinters stage I would say? If they survive the heat and "sierras" (hills) of San Luis..!
Stage 2 January 24TH
1KOM
2 intermediate sprints.
And the last 3 km are a little uphill..
Stage 3 January 25TH
3 KOMs
Screw the sprints..!
Finish looks interesting right? Look closer..! Last 4.8 km..!
Stage 4 January 26TH
TT.... What else can I add to this?
I can tell you that it will help a good reult here but won't dictate the result of the race...
Stage 5 January 27TH
2 Intermediate sprints
2 KOM's
I know you want a closer look at that finish... Wait me too here it comes...!
This last climb the one at the finish is about 7 km of nice climb..! Average 8.75% gradient... 2 km to finish is 15.5 % up, 1km to finish 14.5% last few meters 5.5% .... Now we know why Nibali and Rasmussen (yes the chicken is going to be there)Like this Tour.
Stage 6 January 28TH
1 Intermediate sprint.... Finish is for sprinters if they survive.
3 KOMs....
Here is a map of the stage....
Here is a closer look at the finish...
It has breakaway all over but who knows what is going to happen.
And this is the last stage....
Stage 7 January 29
2 Intermediate sprints
1 KOM
Downhill finish...!!!
Finish line looks like this.
So that is the resume of the stages. Now I am sure you would like to know who is going to be part of this Tour right? I gave you two names already and some of you know some others, but lets look at the official site and see what or better say who is going to be there...

Nice job, Pablo
Will be interesting to see if Levi goes for the win.
"If Peyton Manning crashed onto a barbed-wire fence and returned to a game, you’d never hear the end of it for the rest of your life." Jason Gay
I believe is going to be a hell of a fight for the GC.
Contador: Going to leave everything there too, no one knows if he is going to race another race this year.
Nibali: defending champion, never want to loose to Contador.
Chicken: Well he is the super chicken. He wasn’t in Mexico lately right?
Levi: always a candidate..! And a strong one..!
Colombians: Hey South america is home to them.
And is a local guy that I can’t remember who he is. But they are hoping he does well.

Moyano Jossue. Caja Rural.
He is actually from San Luis.

Last Year's Winner
Nice review and you’re right, it’s going to be an interesting race.
Vicenzo Nibali is not the defending champion, he won in 2010. Last year’s winner, Marco Arriagado (Chile), was subsequently banned for doping but I’m not sure whether he was stripped of his title. He’s still shown as the winner on the race’s official website.
Great preview
this race about the only South Americans get to mix it up with the top Europeans.
It seems as though Cavendish rides faster on some climbs than the fastest climbers in front of the race. Danilo Hondo
Thanks...!
For now, I am sure at some point Colombia will host one race of this level. Great place to bike just people (bad people) made it unsafe… Great country and country side..

Thanks..! you are in FL right?
Plenty of Argentinians there. If you want to listen to Tango the best exponent is, was Carlos Gardel.
I prefer something a bit happier…

Thanks Pablo!
an ITT and a 190km stage. Not bad for a race so early in the season. I’m guessing they’ll be using their roadbekes for the TT.
That is a good question
will look for that answer around to see what can I find about what kind of bikes will they use for the TT. I know for a fact that to bring a bike from Europe to here is somewhere around 200 Dollars. Richese brothers only two racing. where are the other 2?

Who is that?
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
Broerie....
I was looking at last year TT and they are using TT bikes for it. So I guess they are going to repeat.

Oh, this looks so good....
Nibali and Contador fighting it out, Levi in the mix and Tommeke! A bunch of Columbians and it’s all in Argentina. What’s not to love? Only that I’m not there – next year I must visit my friend in Mendoza and time it right.
"These are my principles and if you don't like them....well I have others." Groucho Marx
Let me guess... Fernando?
We have a PdC member right next door of San Luis, Fernando. He lives in Mendoza, is about 3 hours by car from San Luis. Great wine there…!
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
Ah, no.
Not Fernando, my friend is a she. Wonderful wine there, wonderful beef, wonderful mountains….ah well, maybe next year. This year I’ll just have to put up with her gloating.

On paper with the line up, this could be exciting.
Very nice, pablo.
Let's all hope so...!
Everyone letting everything there..!

Nothing is basically the same info you posted earlier.
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
Don't know if they will be showing the race
but the presentation is being shown live here – http://www.canal13sanluis.com/joomla/
careful with that link. there's a trojan horse embedded in it.

Eeek!! Sorry
My internet security system said it was safe. I’ve just done a full scan and it said no threats detected. Hope everyone else is ok…

Fox deportes will have the Tour presentation
But I didn’t posted because is not live. Hope that when they say coverage of the tour they mean LIVE..!
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
doesn't appear that any of the coverage will be live. more a day-delayed one-hour summary (resumen)

It was something of this sort that was available on torrent site
a summary show of each stage – stationary cam of the break passing the intermediate sprints, a few clips from above of the last few km, then the finish line.
There should be an honorary mention
Of the teamless farmer who won the race a couple of years ago.
Me like bike, no?
Feel free to add it..!
Know nothing about the story of this Tour..! And didn’t find anything about that farmer..! Sounds like a great cyclist for a farmer…
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
Are you sure about this?
I am looking and can’t find anything about it… Name? Year he won? Anything? Sounds like a great story to be told..!
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
Hi Pablo, I found something...
Alfredo Lucero won in 2009 as an amateur, on an older and heavier bike…
Tour de San Luis: Alfredo the Farmer Wins Overall, JJ Haedo, the Final Stage
Wow...!
A truly amazing story..! Cinderella story for sure..! Thanks for the link FCV..!
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
I expect Bert to go full gas
because he can’t help himself and yeah…that other thing which may keep him away for a bit. Nibs already has won there so should be a good battle.
"Weltmeister!!" Zwei mal: 2010-2011...und weiter gehts
200% agree..!
The other guy that we can’t count out is Serpa. He had a few good finishes… And he is back at it. Wondering who the colombians will be…?
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
I think Contador will try to win with an effort on a single stage
He has a tendency to win a race in every month up until the summer, then he’s done pretty well in the Tour too before closing up for the year around 3 Aug.
People was asking me about typical things from Argentina.
Here is one:

I found a little more info:
Starts at 1PM Argentina’s time. 11 AM USA East Coast (rest of USA can think what time it is), 5 PM European Central Time and to my friends in Australia it will be 3 AM… Got the feeling we won’t have many of you watching it with us.
Temperature for tomorrows stage 1 is expected to be 27C/80F and rainy…!!!
And we still waiting for an official link to video, but I am sure we will find something..!!!
Can’t wait to see how the rest of the sprinters will do we will have a few very good ones in Argentina.

yes, the stage has started. but, from what i've read (and posted here) it doesn't appear to be live race video coverage, but a day-delayed summary.
