Sorry

I’m used to the mudnuts taking care of this but they all seem to be off galavanting in Belgium for some reason

Mornin' all.

I saw a baby that looked like Cadel Evans the other day...

by John Cyclopunk on Jan 29, 2012 4:56 AM EST reply actions

morning all

61000 people today at koksijde
just confirmed

by geert on Jan 29, 2012 4:58 AM EST reply actions

Important info

Most of the tracks (ruts) seem to have vanished, probably because of spectators walking on the course yesterday afternoon. Will take a lot of power to make new tracks for the front rider. May be advantageous to take a back seat for a couple of laps.

Plus first race back for Van Paassen

after a lengthy respiratory infection.

She stood next to us for the men's race

in the middle of the crowd. Looked like she was having fun.

by tgsgirl on Jan 30, 2012 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

Good grief

About 7 Dutch in top 10?

by straw dog on Jan 29, 2012 5:03 AM EST reply actions

Is this going to be a repeat of last week, we wonder?

I saw a baby that looked like Cadel Evans the other day...

by John Cyclopunk on Jan 29, 2012 5:05 AM EST up reply actions

Don't think so

Previous two races showed that there’s a lot of opportunity to come back, mainly because the first rider has to make fresh tracks.

Ha!

I saw a baby that looked like Cadel Evans the other day...

by John Cyclopunk on Jan 29, 2012 5:05 AM EST up reply actions

Well,

she is supposed to be about the second most technical rider behind Daphny VDB. Cant is probably being held up in traffic right now.

"Beer helps." -- Ant1.

by tedvdw on Jan 29, 2012 5:10 AM EST up reply actions

Oh right, missed that

Thought you might be talking about that uphill mishap from her, that was behind another rider who dismounted.

Back on the wifi

Let’s see how the stream works this morning :D

by Aly Edge on Jan 29, 2012 5:14 AM EST reply actions

If your wifi is a factor

you need a new wifi, or a range extender

by straw dog on Jan 29, 2012 5:16 AM EST up reply actions

I dunno

Just yesterday the stream seemed unusually strong on my wired connection.

Seems strong today too

by Aly Edge on Jan 29, 2012 5:18 AM EST up reply actions

Those grey tyres

look rather classy.

Possible Albertina sighting just there.

Why is Vos looking behind her?

“Holy crap I’m ahead by this much!” ??

yes, Nash in the 2nd group with De Boer and Harris and 1 or 2 others

one just have to accept we have a race within the race.

by Uphill on Jan 29, 2012 5:41 AM EST up reply actions

Pity that Pippi outsprinted her

but that was a very cool ride for Belgium

by Jens on Jan 29, 2012 5:43 AM EST reply actions

Was that a strong result?

I couldn’t really read her expression upon crossing the finish line. She was…animated…about something, but if it was being beaten for silver, well, she basically led out the Dutch girl like a teammate.

by Aly Edge on Jan 29, 2012 5:45 AM EST up reply actions

Or was she happy to get bronze?

Hence my question of was it a strong result

by Aly Edge on Jan 29, 2012 5:45 AM EST up reply actions

Very happy about bronze

about being on the podium, mainly.

"Beer helps." -- Ant1.

by tedvdw on Jan 29, 2012 5:46 AM EST up reply actions

Crazy pleased with a medal

Punching a bit above her weight. She doesn’t have many podiums before

by Jens on Jan 29, 2012 5:46 AM EST up reply actions

Yes, and this year her results have been less good than last year

(with a caveat that since Koksijde World cup, Vos has won pretty much everything, Daphny has been getting every other podium place, so there’s not been much to fight for!)

Aka Pigeons!

by Sarah Connolly on Jan 29, 2012 3:36 PM EST up reply actions

It was fun

the entire crowd let out a disappointed wail, and she was cheering from happiness. That Vos – Daphne battle must’ve converted thousands and thousands of Flemish people to women’s cyclocross by the way.

by tgsgirl on Jan 30, 2012 2:14 PM EST up reply actions

Vos-Daphne?

That was over in seconds. The Cant Daphne(van Paasen) battle was much better (on TV anyway)

by Jens on Jan 30, 2012 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

Uh, yes

Cant-Daphne battle. That’s what I meant. Must’ve gotten confused cause of the commentator who failed at properly pronouncing any of the name. Seh-nee Can’t is attacking!

by tgsgirl on Jan 30, 2012 3:42 PM EST up reply actions

She really had every reason to cheer even if she got outsprinted

DvdB was clearly the fresher rider and yet Cant kept coming back and putting her in trouble. She managed to get rid of van Paasen after that sneaky inside line coming in to the last hill and sandsection and she almost got a gap on DvdB too. Bronze was brilliant.

by Jens on Jan 30, 2012 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, it was

But the immediate responses differed a lot. The crowd really got into that battle in the last lap, oh-ing and ah-ing and cheering while watching the big screen.

by tgsgirl on Jan 30, 2012 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, immediate response will always be that

I felt the same at home since she came so close, but it went away pretty soon. Silver/bronze isn’t huge difference. Medal was the thing.

by Jens on Jan 30, 2012 5:06 PM EST up reply actions

I was laughing when he got to "Sunny"

and as for the pronunciation of her surname…. well, a polite lady like myself couldn’t tell you what it sounded like at one point…. Richard Fries, all about the unintended laughs!

Aka Pigeons!

by Sarah Connolly on Jan 30, 2012 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

I do think there should be a special prize

for anyone who pulls a 720 tailwhip off the ramp, though.

I saw a baby that looked like Cadel Evans the other day...

by John Cyclopunk on Jan 29, 2012 5:44 AM EST reply actions

Sven slight favorite, but any one of the four.

by straw dog on Jan 29, 2012 5:49 AM EST up reply actions

The four...?

Don’t assume I know anything :p

by Aly Edge on Jan 29, 2012 5:49 AM EST up reply actions

Nys, Stybar, Pauwels and Albert

I know marginally more than nothing, but Koksijde is great fun

by geert on Jan 29, 2012 5:52 AM EST up reply actions

It may mean that the exciting racing is for second at the moment

but she’s great for women’s cycling.
Everyone’s talking about her, including people who aren’t usually interested in the women’s sport.
You need someone like this once in a while to inspire a new generation of riders.

She’s so super-strong, and such a great personality – ecstatic about winning, and riding, having fun on the bike, pushing herself and the sport….

He seemed to be having trouble finding his words

Conversational in English, but not fluent, I’d say.

by Aly Edge on Jan 29, 2012 5:55 AM EST up reply actions

facepalm!

She’s never come less than second in the Road World Champs!!!!!!!!!

(really hope she does the roads Olympic-Worlds double this year!)

Wyman on Vos:

“Despite missing two rounds, [she] has shown that she’s pretty much the standard setter for us all and we all need to raise our games.”

That’s got to be good for women’s CX, even if she’s risking the Lance Effect.

the Belgian anthem was set to a strangely low volume

by tgsgirl on Jan 30, 2012 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

She just doesn't have it this year.

She’s never been great technically, but lately it’s just terrible. In pure power she’s probably the greatest of them all.

by blackswangreen on Jan 29, 2012 6:04 AM EST up reply actions

That's the UCI's stance, yes

Might be something to it. Would be a complete Holland/Belgium fest.

Time for some winter riding

If I’m not back by the men’s race I probably slipped on some black ice and lie in a ditch somewhere.

by Jens on Jan 29, 2012 6:13 AM EST reply actions

Careful!

The PdC search and rescue helicopters are tied up with a coffee bean airlift to the West Coast.

by straw dog on Jan 29, 2012 6:27 AM EST up reply actions

Hmm

I’d take a road trip for the road WC, or even if it was a more interesting city, but…Louisville? Pass.
