San Luis is over..!!! Now what??
I was thinking about what was good and bad from the Tour of San Luis and I have a million and a half bad comments to make or suggest to the organizers for next year.... So instead of just complaining and whining about what it could it be I decide to create this post and I am hoping you guys can help me with it....
My idea is to put here all that was good during the event so they can try to repeat it next year. And to put here what we think was bad so they try to fix it for next year or find a solution for it. Ok now you are thinking how this can help? I will send it to someone there and strongly hope we can see improvements in TdSL 2013...
So I invite you to share what you liked from it?, what you didn't like from it?or simple why you didn't care about it? Who is a better judge then you the fan...!! And I really think this group of people has the knowledge to make a difference..!
I will start with the obvious bad, worst one.... TV COVERAGE...!!! Where was it? Thank for your opinion..!

TV coverage of at least last 50 km of every stage!
This is all it needs It has everything else already: Organization, local support, climate, mountains and pretty impressive participation.
In loving memory of the HTC- Highroad
.
I liked that they were able to attract some pretty big names
I hope that they can continue to do so.
Big names => big sponsors => more interest => better coverage for fans.

They are saying they will come back
Already 20 teams already ask to be invited? to take part of it? How this works? For next year.
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
For me the best thing about this was...
the enthusiasm…I couldn’t understand a word the guys on the radio were saying, but they were obviously loving the race. From the pics we did get, it seems as though loads of people came out to watch and gave great support to the riders. And from Twitter it seems as though the riders enjoyed the support they got from the public. Great race, great terrain, great support….more TV/video please
My fave photo of the race http://yfrog.com/ob805iuj
The radio guys already not talking saving their voices for next year...
I hope they show more of this place is really nice… The landscapes I meant…

Keep the distances short, in the 120-150km range. Develop a good ticker. Find a way to produce a puncheur type stage instead of one of the sprinter stages and place it late in the race when the GC is a little setlled.
I would not make the race longer, i.e. 7 stages seems right.
This is for me to understand...
Why keep it under that distance the stages?
Why Only 7? They are talking 9 so they generate more money from tourism…
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
Number of stages.
Remember that top riders will have to take out about 2 weeks of their schedule to ride 9 stages.
Shorter stages boils down to better race action especially in 30’C+ at this stage in the season (my argument). Also why have riders go for 200km when it all comes down to a sprint?
Now that you explain...
True is too early in the season to kill everyone… The temperature is high,,, But you have to love the date..!! There is nothing else going on..! Is perfect…!

I think the timing of the race is very good, but the organiser needs to strike
a good balance between providing a good training base and a race which offers something to fans.
Any suggestions?
What do you have in mind?

Ooooh... ! Anything else you would like?
TT up the hill?
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
I like the current TT, but of course they can change it from edition
to edition. Sometimes flat, then hilly and finally perhaps a bit uphill.
My single biggest complaint - Work prevented me from following along.
WTF – Don’t they realize a race is on?!?
One of the best things of working for with holm's...!

If I were to have a wish list.
1) TV coverage. I know it costs a lot to have cameras on motos with a plane flying up high to radio link to etc, but the thrill of seeing a blistering attack, or a lot of grinta on display as someone responds and refuses to give up is a joy to behold. They have the terrain right and had that kind of action, I just want to see it.
2) As much as I love the Spanish speaking announcers, I would love to have some english speakers doing the commentary too for the live stream. (No offense, Pablo, you were phenomenal with what you were able to do, just wish you could have been there and given it to us live, as a spoken in english call!!)
3) Taped replays of TV coverage of the stages. (I can’t always watch live, would love to have access to wonderful races like this to load and watch when I have some free time.)
4) I think the idea of keeping the stages shorter (ish) is a good one. It is early in the season, don’t want to put off the good riders from coming because we are asking them to go too far too early in their preparations. (Then again, I don’t know much about their training schedules, maybe the organizers should ask them what THEY want.)
5) A week long race is nice, if you go longer then you have to start in the middle of the week to end on a weekend. I guess that is ok, It was a great race as it was and I would hate to make it something that riders don’t want to come too because it takes too much out of the while preparing for the major races of the season.
Just my 2 cents worth.
I’m pretty much convinced that you’re all batshit insane there. ~gavia~
Thanks 2thvet..!
I did what I could, and since I am sort of the only Argentinian around I felt like it was my duty. And I had a lot of fun translating, and showing part of my lovely country..! Looking forward to next year..!

Forgot..! Foxsport was suppose to show the Tour...
And I don’t need to tell you they didn’t…

John Wilcockson says they need to ride through the hailstorm next time:

(actually a fun read)
Holly bad weather..!
I guess time and riders change, I can’t think of any pro now a days riding under such extreme conditions…
That day in Argentina I believe was the one that started with rain, went to hail, back to rain (cold) then it was really hot and wind picked up…. And uphill said all we were missing bush fires… And then it was smoke in one of the hills, no it wasn’t bush fires, someone was making an asado (BBQ)…. Very nice day to remember…!

I'm happy that there is excitement for racing in Argentina, keep it coming.
1.) Do a tourtracker and at least and have a ticker frequently updating during the race. Video can come along in baby steps, just as long as it comes along.
2.) Don’t worry about shortening the stages, the riders will keep their speed in check This race is used primarily for training, should they hop on a trainer after each stage to get the extra work they need?
3.) Maybe for extra racing they could run a circuit race or two along with the stage race like they do in Australia.
4.) Put Pablo on the payroll.
Really like it...
1 for the example, hope they really follow….
4 will be great to be able to work (get pay) and help develop a better tour.

Have to say I don't really care about the lack of TV coverage
I mean, no disrespect but its a fairly obscure race, in south america, very early on in the season. The fact I was able to follow it on here, biccilsmo (sp), twitter and even radio, well that was enough for me, I’m very appreciative of that.
So thanks for “hosting” these live threads pablo :)

No problem...!
Understand your reasons and I can see your point. But this guys in San Luis are organizing this race I believe to show what they have to offer to international tourism so I believe it will be a great way to bring more people to San Luis if you can see what to offer…?
Besides tell me it wouldn’t be nice to really see Levi, Conta, Nibs and local boy Dani Diaz fighting up those hills there???
Strava...? We are going for the TOP 10 this year...! Are you going to be part of something great or not?
of course, I would watch live pictures if available
but I’m not going to demand it or expect it. Happy as it is.

They succeeded in Denmark,
But this guys in San Luis are organizing this race I believe to show what they have to offer to international tourism
the newspaper I read had a very big article about vacation in Argentina during the race. It looked very nice, but you would have to have a lot of money to go there :)
