Rotterdam 6 Days preview video
Because like it starts tomorrow. So go here to see what's coming then bookmark that page because it will turn in to a live stream tomorrow. That's right, a live stream complete with four different cameras, and if you miss anything then they've got a page ready for highlight clips, and a twitter feed to let you know what you missed. And if you can't wait to get in to the mood then head over to You Tube and listen to a bit of Frans Bauer.
So who's there? The men's side has a certain "didn't he used to be banned" quality with Iljo Keisse and Alex Rasmussen both present alongside old stalwarts Danny Stam, Robert Bartko, Peter Schep and Franco Marvulli. The sprinters' competition looks to be a head to head (or is that thigh to thigh) between French stars Mickaël Bourgain and Kévin Sireau, while the women's race sees junior World Champ Lucy Garner trying hard to not be humiliated by giant sprinter Kirsten Wild.
The programme kicks off at 18:00 local time every day, and here's thursday's schedule. You can find the rest of the week's events under the Bezoekersinfo menu. We may even have a live thread or two if we feel in the right mood. Ting-a-ling

And Schep-Stroetinga the fastest
Nice that Havik and Markus get a chance too. I’ve only read goood things about them.
The Kreder brothers should be fun to watch too.
Frans Bauer was on the Belgian New Year show the other night. It was legendary.
I need to learn the words!
It's pronounced "Int-CHOW-stie"
Just made the mistake of clicking on the video of him and am laughing my head off at the comment below:
“Frans has one of the best and most unusual voices in the world”. Seriously? Same category as, I dunno, Callas?
It's pronounced "Int-CHOW-stie"
Oww my ears! Hahaha
This one was featured a lot on new year’s eve. I’ve been singing it ever since :-/
It's pronounced "Int-CHOW-stie"
Are the people singing along in the video drunk?
Or is it just that the Dutch sound like they are drunk when they sing? (Perhaps a little bit of both.)

This is top class entertainment.
The band will fit nicely on the oval track in Rotterdam.
Stand up!
For the champions!
I won’t go to see it live this year. After three years of free tickets my lucky spell runned out…
Me like bike, no?
I'm going to watch as much as humanly possible but....
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t they miss out on a huge opportunity by not hiring Zanger Rinus for the entertainment? Just imagine the epic-ness of him and Romana going round and round on a derny performing their signature song. Magic.
Is the live stream working for anyone?
The three British girls are probably still on their way
Lucy Garner:
So there’s only 1 run way open in Amsterdam causing lots of delays #notlookinggood
Amy Roberts:
Flight to Amsterdam cancelled so in a taxi to Bristol to get a later flight! #stupidweather
It's up for me

Do we want a live thread? (aka I do but have already posted an article today!)

And just to make the set
the other two UK girls are also on Twitter, Elinor Barker and Charline Joiner. No idea whether USAian Shelby Reynolds is too
Barker won silver in the World Junior ITT, no?

It's a nice gig for the girls
but it’s a bit of an uneven competition. Day 1 to Kirsten Wild
I've not seen anything
did Sarah see lots of planes taking off this afternoon?
Oh, were they coming from the west?
I saw lots of rain & big winds…

Not sure they are scheduled for today
Side shows not necessarily on every evening.

Did you see this, from a Fuji bikes top brass? Great suggestions for UCI!

Interesting
(I should really read it again later when I don’t keep getting interrrupted by the Oh Oh, Oh-ho-ho). I’m always a bit wary of the mandate and force argument, because I suspect that those who don’t actually want to do it will do it in such a half-assed and destructive way that it screws it totally for those who do want to do something. I’d rather them find a way to give some other sort of credit. WT points for the teams, and say (as in I don’t know what the technical agreements are) make no extra charge to races for UCI officials to be present. Funding the latter from a general increase in charges if necessary,
I'm in favour of a combo of how they're dealing with CX & MTB
In CX, any race that wants to be C1 or C2 has to have a women’s race – I’d allow men’s races to ally with women’s races from other organisers if they wanted rather than setting up new ones – eg Giro Donne & Giro – and not have them necessarily on same day – and I’d adopt the elegant MTB solution, where teams don’t HAVE to have women’s teams, but the season-long points competition is judged on a combo of best men’s & best women’s points – so they don’t HAVE to have a women’s team, but it sure helps!
(It’s v interesting to me that the UCI can do things in CX & MTB but not road…)

Even just a set of rules for the women would be nice
instead of the current, “fuck it, the Conti rules will do, let’s go down the pub”
Ha, yes indeed!
I’d love to know more about what happened to the recommendations of that UCI group set up that included Arndt & Ronny Lauke…. or even what they were, tbh

for another time maybe, but there is already a rule in the book
for race organisers of a pro tour event
Support for the development of cycle sport
2.15.207
The licence holder must conduct a policy of support for cycle sport not least by the annual organisation of an event contributing to the development of grass roots cycling. This event may at the organiser’s choice be a road event for women, masters, under 23 or junior riders, an event in a cycling discipline other than road racing or a cycling for all event.
In a document annexed to the licence application, the applicant shall indicate in a detailed manner what type of event he proposes to organise during the period of validity of the licence.
Just swap “may” for “must” and put the words “and either a” after women and you’re off. Just saying…

Oh, so interesting, thankyou!
I always thought the gran fondo type events were money spinners (eg at Tour of Cali) not that they fulfilled a UCI rule!

So, re Iljo
I was generally on his side, because of the craziness about him being banned/unbanned/banned again/unbanned again & I read at one point that his ban was unfair…. but am I being naĂŻve? Did he deserve it all? I’m guessing he’s riding legitimately this time, not in one of his odd “banned everywhere but Belgium” times like last year?
Aka Pigeons!
He's still banned in Belgium until somewhere this month
In Belgium everyone thinks he was inncocent (he managed to prove his supplements were dirty but he also tested positive for another substance. Keisse claims it was in a medicine he took against a cold).
The last time we had the discussion over here, all the non-Belgians had no sympathy for him at all. I’ve decided to stay out of it this time. His suspensions are nearly over anyway.
Yeck
What is this? We want the proper Stand up for the champions, none of this new wave re-interpretation.
Andy Lakatosh from Trexlertown on the track now

I'm surprised there aren't more of the trackies with olympic dreams here
getting in the practice
(I’m an enormous track fan, but when riders like Hoy complain about the oh-so-tough competition schedule – Euros AND having to ride at least 2 World Cups, 1 of which is in UK AND Olympics, I laugh outloud)

Wasn't it the Berlin 6
that used stonking great BMW bikes instead of the little 50cc dernies
They did that all the time in older sixes
“The Big Motorbikes” next to the smaller dernies. Spectacular. Much more noise and smoke (and speed).

They just can't help themselves, the Germans.
BIgger, faster machines.
This track is much bigger than theone in Gent
meaning they can actually race the derny’s here (I’m not sayin they will though)
Nope, "Ted van de Weteringe" I think, or else tedvdw like here
but I asked them to delete all my info.
