As a relative newcomer to this sport

I can’t overstate how refreshing the often cheesy, sometimes euro-trashy, low tech goofiness of pro cycling is compared the overhyped, over slicked up assault on the senses that a lot of American team sports has become. I’ll take the acrobats and the quick step boys and their pillows and a jersey that says “Laminate flooring” over the NFL any day.
