Maybe I'm like most of y'all where in my social & work circles, I'm the only guy who's "into biking". Up until now, about once or twice a month I would field a "what do you think of this Lance Armstrong thing?" style question. Based on the savvy collective obtained from my beloved PdC, my general answer has been something like this - "well, we're pretty much convinced he did indeed dope, but for whatever reason he never got caught."
Now, with all this evidence - affidavits, reasoned decision & stuff, what's the collective feeling as to how we treat these guys? Do we, as the most intelligent, informed and insightful DDIFP out there have thoughts on how WE move forward? Do we have more forgiveness for D. Zabriskie cuz he's fragile & quirky than we do for Levi, who I always thought was kinda shifty?
Even though we knew this day was coming, I'm still overcome by the depth of it all. My only role in this was as a fan. A dedicated fan in a niche sport. It's been hard enough to justify my love of this sport to the uninformed as it was. These guys didn't just cheat or lie once. It was systemic! They were cheatERS and liERS...to EVERYONE. Recently, I've been looking back at images from the last decade. When I see podium pics or finish line celebrations from this era...OOOH MAN, how can those guys stand up there or in front of the interview mic knowing that they were less than genuine?
This is going to take awhile to get over. Until we develop OUR official response, my solo reply will be "they're all scumbags and I'm pissed."
