Since it's winter for a good portion of us and a good portion of us ride and I just happened to be matching both those criteria on Saturday (29F, windy), I was curious as to what levels our readers will descend into frozen hell in order to get outside.
When I was younger (early 30s) I would routinely venture down to single digits if necessary in order to get outside, with my dumbest venture being 2F. I didn't enjoy it for a moment. My face turned red immediately and threatened to burst, my feet froze after 15', and an hour into it I was wondering it I had any exterior plumbing left. Mr. Van P and I also put in a ridiculous 3 hours in a constantly changing snow/sleet/rain mix, which only ended up being fun because my rental house had an outdoor hot tub that we piled into immediately upon arriving home. But now that I'm in my upper 40s, I seem to have lost that 'joie de vivre' when it gets really cold. My current gear allows me to get into the low 20s before I start looking like Mr. Stay Puff, but below that I'm in the garage on the trainer.
So my question to you Dear Readers is - how low will you go? Currently, it's 19 degrees and I'm headed to the garage with Season 4 of the Simpsons.
