Ohh Man, a Sprinter Showdown.
Yes, the Tour of Oman is on from Feb 14 -19 and here we will get a first glimpse of the competitive nature of the current crop of tier 1 fastmen. Everybody knows Cav is pretty quick, but how far behind are Greipel and Kittel this year? Ok, this is an early season race, and we may hear lame excuses, but the action here could be vital information, if you plan to select a top end sprinter in the FSA DS game.
There are several flattish stages in the race. Stage 6 below:
via www.letour.fr
More info below the cut:
To spice the fastmen competition up a bit, serveral teams are sending their top end material as well:
Farrar, Sagan, Galimzyanov, Goss, Blythe, Bouhanni, Brown and Guardini are all showing up.
Full startlist.
Don't like the flat stages? Well, we also have a MTF on stage 5:
via www.letour.fr
I understand there will be a 30min race recap every day on Eurosport, probably around midday (CET). Look for links to streams the usual places.

The sand dune on stage 5 seems to be more than 5% for the last 12 kms ….. so that’s something.
Is it just me, or does this race along with Qatar need to be such long multi-stage races.? Could they be bigger if they tried to construct an interesting one day thing? Or are millions of petro-dollars somehow involved and funding entire seasons?
moo
did you see the same climbing stage last year?

Would anybody turn up for a day race?
And yes, Oil talks.
(I would prefer if the entire elite peloton moved to South America this time of year, in places were we have serious amounts of spectators)

gotta be better preparation and better weather than whatever else they’d be doing.

the ES highlights shows are a little all over the place to be honest
various times on various days, but usually repeated a couple of times a day, but need to check on both channels, and algarve is live some days, and highlights only on others (and advisory notice that coverage regularly follows live tennis and snooker so may not run totally to time)
http://tv.eurosport.co.uk/ is the UK tv guide (international and other countries ES coverage varies)
No chance here.
I mean there’s snooker, tennis and skiing going on. Who cares about cycling?
I want to move somewhere I can get Belgian TV. Or Dutch maybe.

yes, Oss looks interesting. Lets see what he can do here.
Boonen otoh probably wants to stay clear and try not to hurt himself. Traffic could get congested.
Yeah, he said he's in this one to help his team mates and not to win

So, as I understand the stupid TV scheduling we will get a 30min recap of stage 1 tomorrow on Eurosport 2 (in some parts of Europe) at around midday (CET).
So frustrating. It sounds like an exciting sprint.

Maybe Goss can do a little better with the short hill before the line?
Until they can hold each others' wheels, GE may struggle and Goss, by his own admission isn't always good at that.

- Greipel won the race.

It's difficult to say how hard the finish of stage 5 is
Last year it was Gesink who won, 47 seconds ahead of Edvald. Then Devenyns, Visconti and Vande Velde. The question is how interested the climbers are this year.

agree, it will probably take a long range attack to shake Sagan.
And as you said, who has the heart (and legs) for that.

I think it's entirely likely. Most people would rate him not only behind Cav,

Maybe the distance? If he can make it to the line at the front of the group, he’d be in with a good shot.

He can make the distance. He finishes P-R (and not at the back), and he finishes MSR.
