Cav lost his mojo? The stage 3 sprint today in the Tour of Oman saw Cavendish with the speed and position to go for the win, when suddenly he gives up with IMHO plenty of room still to go around the left of Nacer Bouhanni (who does sprint rather wildly in Cav's defense). So has Cav lost his nerve after his Qatar crash and when will Austin Powers find Cav's mojo and get it back to him in time for the Continental season? according to CJ Sutton on cyclingnews.com,

“Cav said one of the French guys just chopped him and he said he couldn’t do anything about it, he just had to freewheel the last 50 metres,” Sutton said.

I really don’t see a"chop" however Bouhanni sure moves over on Cav, but again I really think there was ample rroom for Cav to soldier onward if his nerves were all together.

CJ also said he lost Cav, and that his own legs gave out at about the 200m mark.

I think the Sky team is a work in progress.

Wasn't nerves at all,

wasn’t enough time to come around Bouhanni when the dude was drifting like that. Plenty of room yea, but damn who has time for that kind of a detour?

Someone who fights to the line everytime?

I sure hope for the sake of those that have him in their FSA DS team that Cav is not going to start sitting up in every sprint where he decides he can’t win…..

Hmmm, I wondered that as well - did he think he did not have time to win?

Or did he back off because his Qatar crash has left him temporarily timid?

that is exactly what I originally thought as well,

however I looked at video a few times, and Cav clearly had the speed and was starting to overtake Bouhanni and would have I believe had the time to keep going and win. But at the exact moment Cav started to pass, Bouhanni moved over and I believe Cav stopped because of nerves. Normally a sprinter with the experience, savvy, and close-quarters nerves of steel as Cav does would keep going around the ample room to the outside in my opinion.

With all due respect to the race organizers, I suspect

that is this were the end of MSR we would have seen a very different effort.

Cav dreams of MSR in rainbows

He’s not going to get messed up in crazy ssr sprints and risk missing out on that.

Let them enjoy it in Oman!

Cause next 7 month they will experience a deep disappointment.

agree with all the Cav being smart comments,

very likely smart and safe was some part or a major part of it, but I still believe nerves also played some part, if he hadn’t crashed in Qatar does anyone think he would have quit here in Oman? I think he normally any other year would have gone for that large gap that was still available.

Cav is getting older and wiser, that’s all!

Season is long, he got his priorities mapped out.
I am applauding his newfound ability to restrain himself from taking unnecessary risk!

agree, he was just winding up when Bouhanni drifted. this drift caused Cav to go even wider. too wide for him to catch up to Kittel so……………………….

this

for me. Though jury out on whether he would have caught the winner

Ursula really should have come up with a two-tiered pricing system.

Cav = 14 points
Cav’s mojo = 8 points
I don’t like being forced to pay 22 points for the whole package

Can I just buy Cav’s mojo?

Not for the game, for a personal use.

the final word comes from "Mr World Champion" himself, Sir Mark Cavendish:

interviewed today after his KBK win, Mark says to the Sporza interviewer, and this is verbatim: " “I was a bit nervous in Oman”
Well. how many points do I get for my spot-on uncanny exact insight into Cav’s mind?

whoowhoo I am dancing now (not bragging much – not, just happy I is)
