Caubergcross... LIVE

A standalone cross, on the Cauberg (I know, you're shocked). All the bigs are there, except for Stybs I think.

First it rained, then it started freezing for two weeks

It started thawing this week, so all the water from thrree weeks ago is still in the ground. The amount of mu is terrible everywhere

Yay, mud! It's been too cold for much mud this season.

Allright, tgsgirl, who are the “mudders” in CX in the race?

by Ruthann on Feb 18, 2012 9:12 AM EST reply actions

Also, Lars Boom

though it’s a bit of a mystery how good he is. Not Kevin Pauwels, really.

So, Boom is here

cause he can’t go abroad for road races anyway, cause his wife is about to give birth to their first kid.

Aw!

I like it when they stay home – the ones who just carry on racing, you wonder why they bother with partner & kids at all!

He's been lucky so far

Albert flat and Boom seems to have mechanical trouble too.

part luck,

but he was leading before that too

as needed

two pits per race. if you enter the pits you have to either change, or jump on and off your bike.

Most technical race all year, really...

If it's good in any weather, it's real CX!

Loved it in the ice last year, but it was even better this year, even if it didn’t quite flood…

It's great seeing mud crashes

when we don’t have to worry about them!

I know

any interesting events scheduled? Or do they save the biggest events for tomorrow (Sprint men, team pursuit)

by broerie on Feb 18, 2012 10:00 AM EST up reply actions

erm, women's sprint, men's keirin, end of men's omnium,start of women's omnium, women's IP

tomorrow men’s TP & sprint, women’s keirin & omnium – hopefully streams all day then, cos it’s on E/sport as well as BBC

ah cool

I was afraid it was going to be qualifiers all evening long

by broerie on Feb 18, 2012 10:04 AM EST up reply actions

No, they doing all the qualis in the day

they’re happening now – I know Meares & Pendleton meet in the sprint semi-final – can’t wait for that!

Aka Pigeons!

by Sarah Connolly on Feb 18, 2012 10:05 AM EST up reply actions

Really hard to tell - she's very tempramental

and hasn’t been having fun for the last few years, which means she isn’t as good. But she always reacts REALLY well to crowd support, and yesterday was incredibly good – I really expected Meares & McCulloch to win the team sprint, but Vicky rode like she was inspired, and was super-excited afterwards, so…. I am generally cheering for Meares, because Vicky is really annoying with her miserable down-time & pre-race interviews – but really can’t call it.

Funny, though, them meeting in the semis – when that happened in Worlds last year (I think) Meares was saying it was a harder race than the finals!

by Sarah Connolly on Feb 18, 2012 10:13 AM EST up reply actions

Which part is actually the Cauberg?

and will they be riding any of these roads in the worlds?

Heeeeeeeeee!

I want to go to the Cauberg spa!

Aka Pigeons!

by Sarah Connolly on Feb 18, 2012 10:07 AM EST up reply actions

Can't - no tickets

unless i can get some in the April round….

Not sure I fancy the RR, if there aren’t screens, and with Box Hill being charged for, not sure I’ll be able to get there

Aka Pigeons!

by Sarah Connolly on Feb 18, 2012 10:14 AM EST up reply actions

I think it would take that...

Very sad, especially about not gettting to see any of the track – especially if the gossip that about half the tickets have gone to corporates is true…

Sven Nys

It’s a race that’s very tricky, with some technical sections where you can make mistakes if you’re in someone’s wheel. The only one who really duelled with me was Niels, and he had bad luck twice. And then there was Klaas but I had that under control, I could see that he had to go into the red to catch up, so that wouldn’t have been a problem. Albert was very strong, I would’ve had more trouble with him. I’m very happy with my season. I’ve got one classification and a really nice Belgian jersey. I’m proud of my season.

Niels

I had a very good day today. I was less for two weeks cause I couldn’t train much. I think I was as good as Nys, but if you have two mechanicals that’s it. Ha, I think the guys who didn’t race today will have something left in their legs tomorrow. A podium spot today, another podium tomorrow and I’ll be happy.
