Around SBN: Ryder Hesjedal Wins Giro d'Italia

Tour of Qatar: Gutter Time!

Qatar_medium Trixi Worrack of Specialized-lululemon won today's stage of the Tour of Qatar. The Qatar race is famous for camels and crosswinds, and today's race went straight to the gutter, propelled by the strong and ambitious Specialized-lululemon and GreenEdge teams. Both teams received a reward for their efforts. Worack won the stage, while Judith Arndt of GreenEdge now leads the overall.

Wind is nearly always a factor at the Tour of Qatar and from the start of the stage, GreenEdge and Specialized-lululemon hammered away at the race and slammed it into the gutter. With 15 kilometers to go, a four-rider break that included Worrack, Arndt, Adrie Visser, and Kirsten Wild. Just three kilometers later, Arndt and Worrack went up the road and left Visser and yesterdy's stage winner Wild behind. Today marked Arndt's second day in the break, and she took over the race lead as a reward for her efforts.

Cicloweb.it has a photo gallery from today's stage. The women's Tour of Qatar concludes tomorrow.

the pic of the wind blowing sand across the road is great.

seriously

The pictures are great. And y’day’s shot of the sandstorm, where you almost couldn’t see the riders. Crazy times.

Good racing from the GreenEdge and lulu girls to make the most of the conditions.
