Excellent race today. Le Samyn is typically Belgian, flat and exposed, so you had your big peloton and your escapees dominating the race. With about 28km to go the efforts of the big teams (mostly Garmin and FDJ) paid off as the early break was reeled in, but the last half hour consisted of one depleting break effort after another. The sprint happened, but it took a lot of work to bring it about, and Garmin, for one, seemed to pay the price with no positioning in the last km. FDJ took advantage, however, sending Arnaud Demare at the right time on the tough, uphill drag to the line, where Demare came around Kris Boeckmans of Vacansoleil for the victory. Since this is an FSA-DS cat-6 race, here's your top five:
- Arnaud Demare, FDJ
- Kris Boeckmans, Vacansoleil, s.t.
- Adrian Petit, Cofidis, s.t.
- Anthony Ravard, AG2R, s.t.
- Giacomo Nizzolo, RNT, s.t.

Hmmm, just looked at the start list. I see your point
Maybe Bjorn Leukemans though. Personally I want any one of the young Garmins I have in FSA to get in a heroic breakaway. Naardvark FTW!
I was told there'd be no math.
It was him or Hutarovich
and I picked Huta for KBK (finished 2nd) so I had to mix it up a bit. Smart money is on Hutarovich.
Well, since I try to pick a guy who isn't no1 or 2 with the bookkeepers
it sometimes lead to some looney picks. Better that than boring.
Fine until the bookkeepers show up at your door
and “persuade” you to back the favorites.

The calendar is clear both days, I'm happy to say.
MSR, now, that will be a problem—the Quiz Bowl team has their state meet that day. I got out of it last year because my favorite trail race was the same day, but it’s not this year and I can’t really bow out just to watch a race. Even a Monument.

Was looking into how both FDJ-Bigmat and Bigmat Auber 93 got to be in this race, given UCI rule 2.2.001
Riders belonging to teams with the same paying agent or main partner may not compete in the same race except in the case of an individual event. Furthermore, no more than one national team of each nationality may compete in an event. In addition, the participation of both a UCI ProTeam and the development team supported by this same UCI ProTeam in accordance with article 2.15.130 is prohibited.
According to this article at velowire, FDJ-Bigmat is sponsored by Bigmat International, while Bigmat Auber 93 is sponsored by Bigmat France. But velowire still thought there might be problems if they wanted to do the same races.
Not sure I’m convinced, as Bigmat International still seems to include Bigmat France (as well as Spain, Italy, Belgium, and the Czech Republic). But presumably there’s some corporate mumbo-jumbo that makes it okay.

I'm thinking action/adventure with a comic twist
Summie is the dependable working stiff with a good career who gets dragged into all kinds of zany adventures when his old buddy, the reckless playboy Dekkie returns to the old neighbourhood after serving a jailsentence for some shady dealings.
Supporting cast includes
Mr Vaughters- Summie’s excentric boss who is stern and grumpy with Dekkie but in the end can’t help but like him for his boyish charm.
Tommie . Dekkie’s chunky eskimo neighbour who is always hoping to be part of S&D’s adventures.
Vaughters

Value wise Arnaud Demare is the second rider to pay off
at 55 points per point he is already +70 points.
Value standings midway through the first week of racing!
Arnaud Demare 70
Roger Kluge 45
Sep Vanmarke 40
Pichot, Poulhies, Gnedza tied at 25.

Don't make me start regretting cutting Demare in my team "optimization" week.
At least he’s on my youngster team.

55 is the mark?
I was thinking it was 100.
Ideally you get 100 per point.
I already do not regret my Demar choice.
I do rue that I had Sep on my team briefly and cut him.
Still, I’m happy being top 50 -albeit way…. early

Tgartner did a post about 18 months ago or so looking for a way to determine rider value that was more accurate than
efficiency. Since it is easier for a cheaper rider to be more efficient than a more expensive one. He did some math that I don’t exactly remember and came up with 55 points as proper number. Basically you multiply the riders cost by 55 and subtract this from his total points to determine his “Value” . So for Phil Gil to be as good a buy as Demare he has to produce 1980 + 70 points. Vanmarke with his cost of 4 had to produce at least 220 points this season to break even and then everything else is profit points.
Anyway here is the original post
if you want to read it.I do regular updates on rider “Value” Throughout the year, so if you enjoy th measure you will be able to follow its development during the season.

Very few riders actually hit 100 points per point outside of 1 pointers and the occaisonal 4 or six pointer.
fewer 8 pointers and above come close. This does not mean that 16 pointer who produces 1000 points is a dud far from it. It is these solid results that build the founation of a team score.
