PhilH doesn't seem to be about these days, and holmovka and pablo have kindly offered some prizes for a stage predictor game. (I'm sure that they will be fun prizes,
but of modest monetary value STOP PRESS: Giro hat autographed by Sergey Lagutin! - as always at PdC, this kind of thing is primarily for the honor and glory.) I'm planning to watch every stage, so I'm volunteering to look after the game if we have enough people who want to play - I guess it's worthwhile if we have at least 25 or so. Update: we're well on the way to having enough players, so the game is definitely going ahead. If pablo wants that hat, he's going to have to earn it.
If you want to play, put a reply on here to let us know. Below the jump, you'll see that I've tweaked the rules a little bit so that we're not all just picking the favorites... but it's the same basic idea - pick three for each stage.
For each stage, each DS picks three riders. The order of your picks does not matter (note change).
The first three riders on the stage score. The basic score is stage winner 4 points, second place 2 points, third 1 point.
But in addition there are bonus points awarded. Stage winner bonus is 20 points, second place bonus 10 points, third place bonus 5 points. The bonus points are split equally among all the DS's who picked that rider. So, for example, if you pick Cav when he wins a sprint stage, maybe 20 other people will have picked him too - so the bonus is 20 points divided among 20 people, only 1 bonus point to each DS. But if you pick an outsider who wins, and nobody else has picked him - you get all 20 bonus points.
The regular entry deadline will be the official start time of the stage. Now, people may want to be sneaky and change their picks before the stage starts when they see what other people's picks look like. That's fine, it's a normal part of the game and quite acceptable - but we'll allow strictly one change. You can change all three riders if you want, but it has to be in one new post. If you want to make a change, post it as a reply to your original post.
[Edit:] If you miss making an entry for a stage, no problem, you're still in the competition - you just score zero for that stage. Also, there's no limit to how early you can make picks, so if you're going on vacation, feel free to enter ahead of time for as many stages as you want. Here's some helpful advice for that:
Stage 1, Saturday May 5th. Herning-Herning ITT 8.7km
Any time you're ready, post your picks for Stage 1 on this thread.
FOR THE FIRST STAGE ONLY, ENTRY DEADLINE IS 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE EARLIEST START TIME AMONG YOUR THREE PICKS. First rider 15:40 CET, last rider 19:19 CET.
As with later stages, after posting your picks, feel free to make one further post to change any or all of your picks at any time before the deadline (make it a reply to your original post).
