This was the first day in which one of the top two favorites did not win the stage. Peter Sagan is hardly a distant outsider, but his apparent positional naïveté in the flat sprints, and perhaps his crash yesterday, had led most DS's to forsake him. He was behind Petacchi and Veelers as 6th favorite with only 10 picks. Although picking the "big three" for every sprint stage may on average have produced good returns, much bigger points were avilable today for those brave enough to avoid the boring. As well as Sagan's 11 points for the win, Van Hummel's 4th place also paid more then Grepiel and Goss.

Congratulations to LooseHorse, who won the stage with Sagan, Goss and Van Hummel, and the highest single stage score in the competition to date.

There was also a shakeup at the top of the GC, with Sagan-pickers leapfrogging the Cav-Greipel-Goss brigade. Uphill mores up from 3rd into the casquette jaune, and Gravy24 from 15th into 2nd on GC.
