OK, it's probably not going to be on the scale of the Olympics with a cast of thousands of factory owners and hospital beds, and it probably won't have a giant statue at the centre, but the World Road Cycling Championships does have an opening ceremony, and local TV station L1.nl are going to be broadcasting parts of it live from Maastricht tonight. And they stream on line for anyone to watch. The programme begins at half eight local time tonight (which in Dutch oddly is half nine, which actually sounds like they are saying "half naked" - it's a European thing, I guess). You can get a preview by watching yesterday's sports news even if you don't understand Dutch.
L1have been out a lot in the build up to the Worlds. The most Englishy report is that from the 13th which includes a longish look at Kathryn Bertine's preparations, but you can get quite a bit from earlier shows even just looking at the pictures.
They are planning lots more coverage of the Worlds. They've got a schedule here and although they probably don't have the rights to show the main races, they may be the only chance we get to see anything from the U23 and Juniors
