Our man Patrick Verhoest suffers for his art. On Sunday, although it was close to home, Patrick's stay at the Ronse round of the BPost Bank Trofee was a rough one, pouring rain, mud flying, all with his camera equipment sitting there, needing to be kept safe. Patrick did that, and managed to use it quite a bit, as you can see from below. On the plus side, this was a real Cross. Also, as far as I know, Belgium has not run out of beer. So you see, this story has a happy ending after all.
Nikki Harris takes the women's race:
That kind of day...
Early on. How can you tell?
This was the track from above. Not terribly forgiving.
The noticeably hellish S-turns...
Still early on, judging by the mud spatter and the fact that Niels is still in the picture.
Tom Meeusen struggles along.
Down goes Albert!
Pauwels desperate for some form.
Great shot of Sven in Zen mode.
Hm, that went to hell pretty quickly.
Later on. Mud spatter building...
Little Lars staying in contact.
Niels and Klaas, locked in combat.
Aaaand ... your podium.
Finally, Klaas's dad tidies up the bike before departure.
