Argument Clinic (via MontyPython)
This being the internet (but doing its best to not really be the internet), it becomes necessary from time to time to remind ourselves exactly what it takes for the Cafe to continue fighting against the gravity of the Public Sphere and maintain a fun, civil space. Now is probably one of those times.
The rule is simple: if you sense the temperature rising, walk away. It's easy to do, whatever point you're itching to make probably wasn't going to help anything, and the shorter the disagreements are, the less they detract from EVERYBODY ELSE's experience. I know you're here partly because you love cycling and partly because you want to hang around in a cafe atmosphere where we all chat and enjoy the company. It's this pleasure, knowing that in a country that's late to the sport I always know where I can go to watch the race and have a blast, that keeps me blogging early in the morning and late into the night all year, year after year.
If you disagree with someone, that's great, say so. Engage in a debate. Whatever works. But if it gets heated or personal, then it needs to stop. Walk away. Scroll down to another subthread about something else. Do the right thing. Cheers!
