Yesterday I was riding on one of the local roads, a bit off the beaten track, when within about a 2 km stretch I encountered:
1- Mother goose hissing and flapping at me as I rode along the side of a pond. Presumably her nest was along the roadside in the grass.
2- As I got away from the goose, a mother mallard started dive bombing me. I guess there must have been a mallard nest between the road and pond as well...
3- About 2km up the road, I came around a curve about 10 m from a fairly large black bear. The bear stood up and looked at me, I slowed down (and geared down) and looked at him. He decided to run uphill into the forest, and I gave it my all in an uphill sprint to open some distance. I doubt it was a Sagan-like uphill sprint, but it felt like it.
I've encountered other animals before (deer, rabbits, snakes etc) on the road, but that was the most intense showing of animal aggression (well, the birds at least) that I've experienced on the bike.
Any good stories of animal encounters?
