Any tips on recovery from varicose vein surgery?

It's been a great summer. I'm the fittest and lightest I've been in probably 15 years and am riding fast (for me).

Sadly it's coming to an end in a couple weeks when I have surgery for varicose veins in the left leg. The procedure is called stripping or stab avulsion (neither sound fun). My veins are too big for any of the injection treatments which are less invasive and heal much more quickly. The surgeon said I can expect at least 2-3 weeks before being back to normal for walking, but didn't have an estimate for riding.

Has anyone gone through these types of procedures? What are your thoughts on recovery times and do you have any useful tips?

As always, thanks for any input, it is greatly appreciated.
