Here's how I described it in the Viewers' Guide:

Lavuelta.com informs me that this is the first mountain stage of the race. This comes as a surprise to people who watched the two weekend stages, but OK. There are two major Altos -- Monachil and Hazallanes, with the latter constituting the first above-category climb of the race. Maybe that's what they meant by "mountain stage." This is Spain, after all.

With a rest day and a monster transfer beckoning, look for this one to go quickly. But it's a tough, tough stage. The Alto de Monachil comes with 30k to go and will loosen the legs considerably. But the last ascent will just plain hurt.
