Viewing advice please for the Tour in Yorkshire

I have never been to watch a bike race at the road side before let alone a Grand Tour. I am aware that there could be a lot of stress, crowds and waiting around so would appreciate advise from folk who have done it before to make the best of the experience.

My plan would be to stay with a relative in the Midlands and go to see stage 2 go past. I’m thinking of driving up to around 20/30 miles from the route, parking up and then cycling the rest of the way.

From where I will be staying Holme Moss seems a good target. Hopefully it’ll give me (and hundreds of others) a view of the Peloton approaching from a distance, and slow them down and string them out a bit as they pass.

Questions include – does this sound a sensible plan? How far in advance of the race passing will the roads likely be shut to cyclists? And how long after it passes do they re-open?

I really am new to this so ANY advice would be welcome. Thanks.
