WC Confidence Game: Interesting Picks

Two days before the World Cup starts and even more importantly two days before the deadline for entries into the PdC World Cup Confidence game ( 6am pacific) and let me tell you: we got some interesting picks. Lemme tell you about a few (with PdC names mercifully redacted). Note: if you want in on the game go to where these red words take you when you click on them.

Reflecting the betting lines, our entries have in aggregate Brazil s the nominal winner with Argentina and Spain picking up all, er most of the remaining 1st place hopes. And then one person has Belgium! Makeds sense to me. I mean look at this formation:

Van Avermaet-----Steegmans---Van Keirsbulck---Van Asbroeck

That's a pretty good one, especially if the turf gets cobble-ly. I particularly like the twin Van As flying up the wings.

Unlike Brazil and Argentina though, one entry has Belgium as the 7th worst (and every other team has Belgium through to at least the round of 16) while two teams have Spain not making it out of their admittedly tough group (the rest have Spain at least to the Quarters).

Other teams get picked both high and low? Why yes: One entry has Portugal at the #3 team while another has them as 3rd from the bottom.

Bosnia, picked by most to get our of their fairly easy group, is slotted in last place by one entry. Last place is otherwise a competition between Iran, Honduras and Australia.

Let's do a couple other teams with their formations. Let's start with England:

Yates, A-------------Thomas------------Stannard---------Yates, S

Millar is the weak link thee but can you deny him a spot in the starting XI? Of course you can-but England won't.

Izzy, Ion--------Lobato---------------Nieve----------Izzy, Gorka

-------------------Herrada, Jesus-----------Herrada, Jose

---J-Rod-------------------Contador-----------------Moreno, D

Not a great defense but that offense can kill very late in games.

Big, Fast. Run all day. Merciless.

Van Poppel, D------Terpstra----Tankink-------Hofland

--Poels-------------------Bos-----------Dumolin, T
