Quintana and the quest for the 4+1 Jerseys!

The Vuelta offers riders a unique opportunity to "fight for" jerseys that are simply out of their reach in other grand tours. The jersey classifications available are the following:

  • General Classification
  • Points Classification
  • King of the Mountains Classification
  • Combined Classification

My question is: can Quintana on form realistically win all 4 classifications? This post is just to open the discussion...

Let's analyze each one with the following assumption: he's on form enough to win the GC (otherwise this discussion would be mute or applied to another rider).

The points classification of the previous three years was as follows:

2013 - Valverde 152pts (Horner was 2nd with 126 (-26))

2012 - Valverde 199pts (Contador was 3rd with 161 (-38))

2011 - Mollema 122pts (Cobo was 5th with 92 (-30))

If he is dominant enough in the mountains then maybe. More so with Valverde not racking up as many points as he would have liked...

The King of the Mountains of the previous three years was as follows:

2013 - Edet 46pts (Horner was 2nd with 32 (-14))

2012 - Clarke 63pts (Contador 6th with 28 (-35))

2011 - Moncoutié 63pts (Cobo 3rd with 42 (-21))

If he dominates the MTFs then he can easily do it...

The Combined Classification of the previous three years:

2013 - Horner

2012 - Valverde (Contador 3rd)

2011 - Cobo

The easiest of the three since if he dominates he'll end up with this one for sure...

The +1 jersey is the unofficial Young Rider's Jersey and that would automatically go to him if he won the GC.

If you check betting houses they give the shortest odds to Quintana on all three major jerseys.

This is what I ask you: Is it feasible and if so, how likely is it?
