New leaders

So Kloden, Julich and Moreau move into their teams' top spots. Something odd about the possibility of Julich repeating his third place overall... from 1998. Something tells me he was happier then than he would be now.

For the record, Clydesdale, I'm not making changes to the Rundfahrts... I think you may have this but just making sure.

Julich...

It's hard to fathom what Riis has in mind right now, but unless Julich is hitting his best form of the last few years, it's hard to imagine him even making the podium. Sastre might be an obvious choice but he seems to lack the mentality.

Robbed of a possible winner, I wonder if Riis won't simply hunt for stage wins. A couple of those might make the tour more of a "success" than sacrificing the team for a leader who is a long shot for the podium...

I was just thinking about how, oddly enough, the peloton may be looking at Discovery to control things after all. "Just when you think you're out, they pull you back in!!" I'm sure the worker bees at T-Mob are having a bad day along with the rest of Cycling, but they'd be forgiven for thinking to themselves "now I don't have to spend three weeks controlling the race for that overpaid chump...."

I would love for Disco to do well, but if you read George's interview with CNN, he's saying he's glad this year to not have to do that work of controling the peleton for his leader. It also seems to me like Disco might suffer problems similar to some other teams last year where several different people were jockying for leadership and the whole team wasn't working for one person. George sure sounded like he was in it for himself, not to work for the suposed team leader Jose, and I bet Popo probably wants a shot himself after his strong standing last year. Of course, it's just an interview, so maybe what George says doesn't mean much. Plus I can't imagine Disco having the leadership fights that Vino and Jan had last year ...
