Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Dauphine Libere Stage 1 Open Thread

I'll be paying closer attention after today, with an ITT coming and the road turning up in a big ol hurry. Today is one for the sprinters: Wegmann? Chavanel? O'Grady? One of the Dekkers? Smart money's on Thor Hushovd.

20km
left. A cofidis rider on the attack. I'm sure this will work.

It's the only sprinters stage
before next Sunday, so the sprinter teams should be hauling this one in.

Are we in an alternate universe?
Credit Agricole is actually on the front doing work!!!!

This can't be right.

If he
were the real THor, he wouldn't need anyone to ride for him. He'd start a rainstorm up over the break.

by Chris Fontecchio on Jun 5, 2006 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Are you forgetting thunder and lightning?
You think he'd use a wimpy little rainstorm to show off his power? He'd use lightning bolts to weld all the break away riders to their frames, then sprint past them booming laughter.

He absolutely must win his national champs jersey to wear for the Tour again. The coolest jersey in the bunch by far.

Typical Thor
I'll admit that his name sounds cool, and he looks good in the norse flag, but it completely within his and C.A.'s style to target a tour w/o any major sprint competition to showcase Hushovd.

It bugs me that he never creates anything for himself, always is a parasite on the work of other teams.

by Koppenberg on Jun 5, 2006 11:10 AM EDT up reply actions

Well
he is what he is, but it's not like he's got much of a leadout team. If you're going by that measure then McEwen is the biggest parasite in the world. But he wins.

And Thor did score a win at Gent Wevelgem when all the best sprinters were there and on form.

Small climb now
and the Cofidis rider whose name nobody will say (Inaudi or something) has already coughed up 30 seconds. Nibali attacks on the Cote. Kurt Arvesen joins the attack. Lining up for CSC's daily victory.

Interesting break
Mancebo, Wegmann, Martinez (Disco), and Tommy Voeckler playing the potential role of lovable French loser. Wegmann for the win, Mancebo the jersey? 10km to go, surprisingly fun stage!

Just once
I want to see the peloton split going around one of those roundabouts (we call them rotarys) and have half the race diverted to another direction.

Just curious
Can anyone think of a single reason why Gerolsteiner have taken up the chase of Wegmann?

by Chris Fontecchio on Jun 5, 2006 11:09 AM EDT reply actions

yeah
Because they're mean.

Wegmann takes it!
Ahead of the lovable French loser.
