Virtual Directeur Sportif 2007!!

Ok folks here are the official rules:

**Please Check The Rider Point Values Again**
I had to adjust a few of them so it may affect if you were building your team from the prior point values. (Mr Van P, this will effect your team)

Podium Café Virtual Directeur Sportif Competition

Each team must have 25 riders in it. You have a rider point value cap of 100 points. You can spend what ever amount you want to up to that max. The point value for riders is available here. The riders are your team for the entire season, unlike some of the other cycling games out there you do not have to designate a "Team" for each race. What ever riders you have from your 25 in whatever race will earn points for you. This makes for an interesting case of looking at the larger picture. There will be times where your team may be in action at several different races at once or you might not have but a couple of riders going at any one time.

The points are awarded according to the posted schedule. There are points for the finish in each stage of stage race as well as an overall point value for the Overall finish. Stage races will also have points available for Sprint, Mountain and Overall rankings for each stage as well as overall final rankings at the end of the Race. Time Trials will be awarded points by the individual and Team Time Trials will be awarded points by the Team placing to each rider on that team.

Team member replacements are allowed only in the case of an injury and are limited to 2 Riders and prior to the Start of the Tour De France only. These replacement riders are at double the normal point value toward your cap cost. For example if you want to replace an injured rider and the replacement rider has a normal value of 5.5 points then it costs you 11 points toward your cap to replace him. If it is a minimum point value rider that your are replacing and cannot get under the cap due to doubling then the doubling is waived. No replacements for poor performance are allowed. The riders are your team members regardless of performance.

Teams need to be in place by the 1st of March. There will be a posted showing your teams details as well as an overall ranking showing current standings. There is also a limit of one team per player.

Tech Note

After some consideration I have decided to have the team work sheets as viewable only. There are some issues with updating and having people work on them that could cause some problems. So to put your team into the competition just email me with your rider list and I will put it into the sheet and you can then use the above link to view your team and all the rest as well.

Good Luck

As a bonus if you get your team put together before the Tour of California I will use a couple to make a dry run on my scoring system and post the results. They will not be locked in until the 1st of March though.

***Update*** Due to a technical issue with how many cells that Google docs will support I am having to divide the team listings into separate documents. There are now two sets of team listings and we may have more as we get more players. I will post a listing of what set your team is in.

In the rules
section there are links to the rider list and then a link to email me with your riders once you have them picked. Please include your team name and your Podium Cafe login name as the DS.

questions
I assume it's a mistake Van P gets sastre for 1.5 points? otherwise I totally want him ...

So if we don't get to edit the spreadsheets, does that mean we don't need a Google log in for the VDS?

I've been making my team in googledocs, does it help if I email it to you pre-spreadsheeted, or does it not matter?

Also, who here thinks 100 points is way to low? It's so hard to chose ....

by ellie on Feb 14, 2007 1:44 PM EST reply actions

Yeah
I mentioned that in my earlier post, The rider points changed for Hoste, Sastre and Astarloa. I did miss the Hoste one on 1km2go though. He will have to make some changes.

by Clydesdale on Feb 14, 2007 2:05 PM EST up reply actions

You can send it as a doc
or link the page or whatever. I can make it work either way.

by Clydesdale on Feb 14, 2007 2:06 PM EST up reply actions

1km2go
also has Leif Hoste at 5 points intead of 10 ....

man where can I get myself some half priced riders....

My team REVISED

I'm dropping Dekker and picking up Posthuma...that should put me under the cap again....

by 1km2go on Feb 14, 2007 2:28 PM EST reply actions

Clydesdale
I thought it would, but I figured you might want to use mine as a test for the TOC.  I will send a revised tonight.  I can't access my team from work. Was it just Sastre that was affected?

by Peter Fontecchio on Feb 14, 2007 3:14 PM EST reply actions

Sastre and Astarloa.
you're 10.91 points over.

by ellie on Feb 14, 2007 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

noooooo!!!
my team is now 100.17 points! .17 frigging points over! I cry ...

by ellie on Feb 14, 2007 4:35 PM EST reply actions

100.06
With the Astarloa change, my original was 100.06. .06 over... And I had to change a bunch to make it work.

by BDBrian on Feb 14, 2007 4:38 PM EST up reply actions

man
that blows. I'm probably just going to switch one guy for a lower point one, so not so much work for me. Except the mental strain of chosing who to lose ... [sniff] Vladamir Karpets, I will be sad to see you go ...

by ellie on Feb 14, 2007 4:43 PM EST up reply actions

Welcome
to the world of salary caps, just imagine if that .06 was a four or five figures worth of salary.

by Clydesdale on Feb 14, 2007 4:47 PM EST reply actions

am I just halucinating
or did a previous version of the points give points thru like 40, and then .5 points for everyone else who finishes the stage?

by ellie on Feb 14, 2007 5:30 PM EST reply actions

opps
for got to include that's grand tour stages I'm talking about ...

by ellie on Feb 14, 2007 5:30 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, we adjusted them a little for
ease of use and to signify the lack of interest in the peloton after about 20 places.

by Clydesdale on Feb 14, 2007 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

but ... :(
I'm interested in the peleton after 20 places .... I partially picked my team based on the idea my 20-40 GT guys would get points .....

Well i already spent a day and a half picking my team, I'm not going to re-do it now. :-/

by ellie on Feb 14, 2007 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

Don't feel too bad.
I built my entire team for April.  : - o

by Peter Fontecchio on Feb 14, 2007 9:35 PM EST up reply actions

well
I tried to make my team well rounded, but I don't have any GC men, so the only way that works is if my domestiques pick up points in the GTs ... we'll see, we'll see. Maybe Tom will come through for me with a Vuelta win ...

by ellie on Feb 15, 2007 1:19 AM EST up reply actions

Allan Davis?
How many points is he worth. Some of us might be interested in switching him into our rosters. Just maybe.

by BDBrian on Feb 14, 2007 8:38 PM EST reply actions

yay! another Disco fan
:)

he should be 1.5 shouldn't he?

by ellie on Feb 14, 2007 9:26 PM EST up reply actions

Disco Fan?
I'm American. Only reason I ever started watching any cycling was Lance. Of course I'm a Disco fan.

by BDBrian on Feb 14, 2007 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

heh
that's how I feel. But there are plenty of American's here who don't feel so cheritably towards Lance and the big blue train. We'll show them though ;)

by ellie on Feb 15, 2007 1:20 AM EST up reply actions

7 straight TDF's!!!!!
and maybe the best sports come-back story of all time.  Not to mention a world champion and some excellent one-day races.  Trust me, I've been a fan of his since '94 and I don't see that changing any time soon.  I've been watching the '03, '04 and '05 TDF's while riding the trainer this winter.  It's easy to remember how dominant he was.

by Peter Fontecchio on Feb 15, 2007 6:58 AM EST up reply actions

Not just Lance
There's also Hincapie, who's been close to a P-R win a few times. Popovych, who's been on the Giro podium. Basso. Leipheimer. Gusev and Devolder are pretty good on mountains and cobbles.

That said, they don't seem to have many guys for the hilly races or any sprinters (I guess that's what Davis is for). Stage races and cobbles for Discovery, I guess. They go for the races Americans like, though. Sponsor goals are important.

by BDBrian on Feb 15, 2007 7:58 AM EST up reply actions

hey
you don't have to persuade me. I love lance. But you have to admit there are plenty who think he is over-rated and were glad when he was gone.

I need to get a copy of the 03 tour. And the 04 and 05 ... mmmmm watching Lance drop the hammer. It's a beautiful thing.

by ellie on Feb 15, 2007 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

Tour of California
Does ToCal count?  If the teams are due March 1st I either lose big points or get a "freebie".

Great stuff! I love this kind of pool.

by CCB VW on Feb 15, 2007 9:39 AM EST reply actions

The ToC isn't going to count
so no worries there.  Maybe next year we'll try to include it.

by Peter Fontecchio on Feb 15, 2007 9:40 AM EST up reply actions

Team Canuck
Now we have a truly international group of Directors Sportif.  It maybe the last year that Discovery riders will be available as they may have quite a time getting another sponsor after the Ivan Basso gaff.  I would have loved to have taken Vino, but with what is happening to Unibet I don't hold out too much hope for Astana's chances of wild card spots in the grand tours.

by canadian on Feb 15, 2007 6:34 PM EST reply actions

Vino
Can't imagine the Grand Tours without Vino. Who else attacks, attacks, attacks like him. Maybe Voigt.

by Teel 22 on Feb 16, 2007 2:40 PM EST reply actions

Vino
By far Vino is the most relentless attacker.  Not always at the most tactical times, but he's got a great squad to back him up.  Do have to agree on Voigt that guy is a powerhouse.

Giro Confirmed
Astana and tInkoff confirmed for Giro.

Can it be Feb 25 already?
A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
