Podium Club: Dura Ace Component Groups!

Our first offer to our new Buyers' Club comes courtesy of our erstwhile partner in the Podium Club:

Pretty memorable name. And no, they are not part of the vast, sprawling Podium Cafe Empire. Anyway, on to the important part:

Members of the Podium Club can buy a complete Shimano Dura Ace group for only $995.00! This complete kit includes crankset, bottom bracket, STI brake/shift levers, brake calipers, front and rear derailleurs, chain and cassette. And this is WAAAY below retail.

Details on the flip:

Star-divide

The first offering is a complete 8-piece Shimano Dura Ace component group for only $995.00 (California residents add sales tax). Not that it needs much introduction, but Dura Ace is arguably the world's number one road cycle component group (unless you're a Campy snob), and is employed by probably half the bikes you see in the Pro Tour. This offer is for a complete kit that includes double crankset (specify length), bottom bracket (specify threading), STI brake/shift levers, brake calipers, front and rear derailleurs, chain and cassette (specify gearing). Typical retail price is $1300... so this is a pretty amazing price.

This is a great deal.
Most shops are $300-$400 more for the 8-piece kit.  If you put that savings toward wheels, those Ksyrium SL's might be in the budget now...

How much for just the shifters?
I can't get this computer to pull up the Podium Cycles site. But how much for just the shifters?

Can we get the same discount if...
... we pick up the gear in person, to avoid shipping costs?  No reason to pay shipping when you can pick up locally w/o much difficulty, and Calif. residents have to pay state and local taxes anyway.

Would think so
This is a shop we're talking about, not Colorado Cyclist. I'm sure Chris would be delighted to deal with you in person. Just be sure you contact him ahead of time and give him your Podium Cafe username, so he knows he's not giving this great deal to just anyone who walks in.

$995 is a deal for DuraAce
Too bad I already built my bike. I paid about that much for Ultegra and FSA. I agree with shnabors, though, you lose perspective on how much "regular stuff" costs when you are racing bikes and paying for your habit out of pocket.

well, it's not like i'm not guilty
of losing perspective due to an obsession. spent a good 20 years of my life sailing/racing, and we'd replace full sets of sails every other year, some  at 10 thousand dollars and up per sail. albeit, twasn't out of my pocket, they ain't that large.

Cycling may be expensive,
but it leaves so little time to do anything else, that I save money in other ways.   Before cycling I was playing 50 rounds of golf per year, and another 15-20 days downhill skiing.

50?
That's, what, ten fully built bikes? I love playing golf, but the industry is kind of a pyramid scheme.

And once you get hooked on the nicer
courses, you just can't play those swampy muni tracks anymore..

"Look honey, I'm actually SAVING money by getting that new Merlin".

I'm gonna try this ... wish me luck! Does anyone have a couch I can sleep on?

hehehe
I try to tell my wife that my bicycle hobby and racing keeps me out of the mess after work, off he internet porn and games, and keeps me in shape!

And I haven't golfed a round in over two years. That's like $150 a round once all the beer, food, and extra balls are counted!

Thanks, Chris & PC
Component group upgrade not in this year's plan, but it's a sweet deal.  I'll check out PC for future purchases.
