Newcomers in bold

this is the first I have seen of John Devine's signing. I am glad he found a good ride after joining Disco mid year.

Great team
I think they're gonna have a great year - Lots of young sprinters, although no Zabel (which, I thought was already confirmed?) and they certainly have some decent classics guys and some young budding GC/climber people. And Wiggins.

very strange
that Brajkovic is not on that list. I hate to guess why that may be....his agent was quoted as saying that the contract was signed.

Also it is ridiculous that they cannot spell the names of their new riders right. CRAIG Lewis not Greg. Bit insulting for poor Craig....

Astana, much?
That seems to be the obvious answer, does it not?

by BDBrian on Sep 28, 2007 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions

yes
Astana is obvious now, but he was said to have already signed for T-Mobile. What I want to know is what made the Tmobile contract fall through?

Hurray the Mighty Pink...err...the Mighty Magenta!
It will be interesting to see George in the new kit.
The big question is...Will he be more or less Gorgeous in the pastel jersey?
(When we saw him at the Tour of California, my wife said, "In person, he is actually very attractive!"  As for myslef, I kept looking at that gnarly cluster of veins in his calf.)

I was sorry to see that Aaron Olsen was not on the list.  I hope he finds a team to ride for next year.

Olson
Methinks Olson is on the way to Priority Health.

Not sure if it's confirmed yet though.

by Jen See on Sep 28, 2007 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

yes it's confirmed
and the team name is now Bissell Pro Cycling Team as Bissell is now the main sponsor of the team

by lyne on Sep 28, 2007 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions

New title sponser?
If they are now Bissell...does they mean that they are gonna suck?

Get it?

See what I did there?

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, know what I mean?, know what I mean?

Rock Racing adds some big names as well
From CN
..."We have Freddie [Rodriguez], Victor Hugo Peña, Cesar Grajales, Doug Ollerenshaw, Michael Creed and another rider signing later today." Ball confirmed that the other rider was in fact the much rumored Chris Horner....

On that same page they mention LL has signed but not to which team yet, Astana is the rumor though.

Darnit
I was hoping Lotto would keep Horner. Lame.

The dudes at Rock have some serious cash to throw around, though, so good on him for getting a good deal.

by Jen See on Sep 28, 2007 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions

very lame
I can't see how this is a good move for Horner. Maybe he plans to retire after one more season, or knows the Rock people personally.

He had a good year, and did top notch domestique work for Cadel at the Tour. I thought he'd be a lock for some Euro squad.

I hope he personally looked at the bank statements and credit worthiness of Rock Racing. There is a long, sad history of domestic squads over-extending and imploding.

Horner
It seems PregnancyTest-Lotto may have taken the money they should have given to super-domestique Horner and handed it over to Popovich.

I would still like to see Horner get a great deal for a strong team.

I'm still hoping for Slipsteam to pick him up.

The Rock Racing
Boss has an interesting attitude if you read the article. He admits to telling Rahsaan Bahati to win or he is fired. It is the antithesis of T-mobile and Slipstream. It unequivocally conveys the win at all cost attitude that got us into this mess in the first place.

by australopithecine on Sep 28, 2007 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Can't say that I agree with their style or
methods but it should make the Domestic scene really strong next year with the riders that they and Slipstream will be adding to the races.

Rock Racing or Red Flag Racing?
I hate doping and wish it would go away completely (naive, I know).

That being said...

For the next domestic doping violation...
my money is on...

Scanning through the "Big Photographs" from today's stage 7 of the Giro on Steephill (worth a look after every stage) and I noticed, on this image - whose caption describes "Niemec about to launch Lampre-ISD teammate Michele Scarponi on the steepest (10%) part of the climb" - that both Lampre cyclists are in the big chain ring.

Let me repeat that. 10% slope. Business end of stage 7 of the Giro. Big Chain Ring!
