VDS 2008: The Spreadsheet!

This past week we kicked off the Podium Cafe Virtual Directeur Sportif 2008 competition... and I've already gotten about a dozen submissions. Well, better late than never, we now have a spreadsheet that I need you to use to fill out your team entries:

VDS 2008 Spreadsheet

Many, many thanks to Hons for the data entry and encouragement to employ technologies so complex that they aren't being taught in the public schools at lower than a fifth grade level. Anyway, it's a handy enough device, showing everyone listed and their point values. I've added in the formatting for tabulating points as you pick your riders, so you can keep track of how close you're getting to the magic 150.

So, please open this spreadsheet, fill in your riders by name and points, save it and send it to me as an attachment. This includes those of you who've already sent your team, I'd be grateful if you'd redo it on the spreadsheet. Send emails to podiumcafe@yahoo.com vdsentry2008@yahoo.com. Thanks, and also thanks to the guys who confirmed on the experimental post that this works!

Substitutions
You said you were looking for ideas on how to do this. My suggestion is that everyone adds 3-5 subtitutes to their teams and when a substitution is necessary (only in case of long injury or suspension preferrably) you are allowed to use one of those. If your teamvalue has to remain 150 points the smart DS picks reserves with different values (so if for you for some reason should need to replace Danilo Diluca  you could replace him with Tony M who is also a 20 pointer)

alternative
Allow a bigger set of substitutions, but you have to replace with someone worth at least 2 (or at least 4) points less...

That lessens the wild-card effect.  It should also lessen the urge to hope that someone who's having a wretched season will crash badly enough to leave [wink].

missing names on spreadsheet
Elminger / Elmiger is no longer listed... don't know if there are others.  Can you confirm that none of the point values have changed, and that no-one has been deleted, since the original posting?  Or do I now get him for 1 point [grin]?

Dang
I'll proof the spreadsheet tonight. Obviously the values are what they were announced at.

DS
For the DS are we to pick a real DS or is it just us?

Your choice
For the record, Va Fa Napoli will not be renewing Teun Van Vliet's contract this year. He just couldn't get through to the plethora of Italian riders on the team.

This is the entrance to the old velodrome I happened by in Buenos Aires. Tried to get in, but the guard ran after me and started yelling about calling the police. The "Lo siento, no entiendo. Soy turisto." thing didn't work. At all. Ah well.

Did a bit of searching and found this January 07 story about the velodrome here. Built for the 1951 Pan-American Games, that track yielded 152 medals for Argentian cyclists. Perón glory years, indeed. Turns out that it's been closed for 10 or so years, mostly used as a tow lot. There was a restoration plan in place, but it's fallen beyond repair and is slated for demolition. A shame.
