2.0... in Less Than 24 hours

Just a reminder, today is the last day before this site is completely reformatted and becomes Podium Cafe 2.0. When you stop by tomorrow you'll see some instructions on how to reclaim your login, and from there we will all have to figure out how the new toy works. For people who get into blog technology, it will be like Christmas morning; for people who don't, it will be a relatively minor adjustment while you find the stuff that you need. Each day as I figure out new stuff I will write up descriptions of the new features. But I probably land somewhere in the middle of the geek scale (do they still program in Fortran?), so I am counting on at least some of you guys helping with the discovery process and writing short posts about cool new features. This is a huge step, and by the time the Tour rolls around I think we'll all appreciate what a great thing SBN has created.

Breathless anticipation...
Can't wait for the new site.

I am probably about as geeky as they get on this site. (IC designer)

Excellent!
We'll need your thoughts/observations. Should be live by 4am Eastern, if you can't wait.

Hey, while we're at it
how about some (re)introductions of ourselves to the community? There are a lot of new voices of late, and I think it would be great to get a little better idea of who we are, here. I often click on the user names to see if any background info is provided, but that's usually blank. So maybe we could have a Who Are You? thread as part of the kick off, tomorrow?

by Sui Juris on May 8, 2008 11:17 AM EDT reply reply   0 recs

Sounds good
As the headmaster I'm reluctant to ask for this info, but at the same time a lot of folks seem awfully familiar to each other, probably to the lurkers too (p.s.: welcome all lurkers!). So if you want to kick that one off, I bet others would join.

So
if I post in my profile "I am who I am" will that perplex or piss people off? I don't want to get on the wrong side of any theologians ;-)

Can I post a picture
of Bettie Page and pretend I am she? :-)

Any other SBN blog
Don't ask me how to claim your PDC stuff if you create your login at another blog (the rules don't apply to me!), though it's probably pretty self-explaining.

yep, just went to another blog, clicked on
register, and typed in my name as the id I wanted. It then informed me that that id was spoken for by someone in Podium Cafe... hey that's me

then it asks you for your podiumcafe password to claim that id. easy.

the only problem I had was during the registration steps, it asks for your favorite baseball, football, basketball team and more sports, and I don't have any :) but it never asked for my favorite cycling team or even rider. sigh.  btw you can leave those fields empty, I did.

Hmm
I clicked on some random SBN blog, and clicked "create account" All I got was an account on a fantasy baseball blog. Yucch. Lyne, do you know which blog you used?

by johnw on May 8, 2008 6:00 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

any NEW SBN blog
good catch.

Success!
My mistake was using an "old" SBN blog.

thanks

Yeah :-)

Yep. I did the same.
Tho' now I'm going to create about 10 seconds of work for someone else because I don't want to be associated with the "Athletics Nation." and I'm going to have to email to ask to be disassociated.  I mean, I'm no baseball fan, but I know enough to know better than that :)

by Sui Juris on May 8, 2008 8:00 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Hmmm
Do you think that if you just put as your favourite team their arch rivals (whoever that is...I'm really not a baseball fan), that they would remove you automatically?

by Hons on May 8, 2008 8:55 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

the sad part
is that I have no idea who the archrivals of the Athletics are.  BALCO?  Jose Canseco's illegitimate children?

(I may not have knowledge, but I have baseball cards from 20 years ago . . .)

by Sui Juris on May 8, 2008 10:22 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Could be worse
For example: I could register on Carolina March. That would be shameful. Unless I wanted to watch and laugh at those Tarholes.

Or you could be forced to register on a hated football/baseball team's site, or what have you.

Hey now...
One of my kinfolk is currently a pitcher on themthere UNC baseball team. My feeling...it is hurt. (Feel free to trounce on Duke, however. No love lost there...)
